I fitted the Yoshi shields on my 348. I had them recessed due to personal taste. The photos of the GTC Original shields clearly show a difference in the horsey bits compared to Yoshi's. However, I've seen other pics of original shields which are exactly like Yoshi's.

    a) do we know that Ferrari has maintained the same shield design from the same (presumably) sub-contractor who makes them over the 20 - 30 years we are talking about?

The following is based on MY personal experience with the Yoshi super thin shields.

    b) the Yoshi price, discount and speed of service are second to none

    c) the Yoshi shields are not symmetrical. If you take a tracing, fold it down the centre line, you will see that the border curvatures don't match up

    d) the general quality as regards colour, inclusions, air bubbles etc., is excellent

    e) when I tried to rub off what I thought was dirt or grease from the packaging whatever, I found I couldn't. Looking closer, I could see that the yellow surface had micro-crazing. Although I was not too happy at first, now they are fitted on a 12 year old car, they look just right. They look as though they've really been there for 12 years and I just love them. Maybe not everyone's taste, though.

    f) I can't comment on the body curvature match as I had mine recessed.

For the nose badge, I decided to "treat" the car to a new one. I ordered one up from the Main Dealer for mega-bucks. WHAT A LOAD OF $H1TE! Believe me, I even had to take some serious metal polish to it to get the rust off the chrome surround. I also ordered up new side indicators. These had such open porosity on the rubber seals, it looks like their manufacturing has been sub-contracted to a Swiss cheese factory. Honestly, I kept the old ones. So much for Ferrari original quality when we compare aftermarket items.

If you think of the rusty 348 sill plates, the cracked chrome of the wheel nuts, the trim held together with self-tapping screws and cup-washers and all this on a 1994 vehicle, it doesn't take much to realise that most trim bits and the like knocked up in someone's garage are going to be of better quality, so why the obsession to reproduce the "original"?

Depends where you park or leave your car, I guess, but aren't magnetic shields going to have a very "mobile" life style?

    Sean,
Did you put them on your car? Can you post a couple of pics? A close up showing the shield in detail if possible would be great.

    Thanks,

    Guys,
Any input in Husker's question- what are options for metal shields with magnetic backing?
    Thanks in advance,

OMG, I had no idea that you guys have been debaing over my (Yoshi's) shields, which I have changed the company name to YoMagic a while ago. After going through all the postings on this thread, I felt obligated to help clarifying some issues being discussed. First of all, I would like to thank those who had purchased and gave some excellent reviews on our shields. This particular comparison picture (6 shields) was actually taken by me just to show how close our shield is to the OEM shield. You can find the OEM shield on the left upper corner while ours (Yoshi's) is placed at the right upper corner. The shield Chaa has is the shield by Nick in Ventura (CA), which is placed at the lower right corner. The middle shields (top and bottom) are the OEM "sticker" shields. The one in the bottom is the "puffy 3D resin type" while the top one is the plain sticker. The remaining shield at the lower left corner is by the French manufacturer called Barracat? and was once sold by Paul. So now you know, the design and colors of Yoshi's shield is the closest to the OEM shield.

The dimensions (except for the thickness) of the Yoshi's shield are exactly the same as the ones of the OEM shield. If you place our shield over the OEM shield or vice versa, you would know they are exactly the same size and shape (off course except the thickness).

As for the fitment, I have had a few claims before and do not honestly know why they had the problem with the fitment, especially with our ultra-thin (1.0mm) shield as they are flexible enough to conform to the curvature with the slight pressure of the palm of your hand. Many customers told me they fit perfectly.

Anyway, I am very confident that our shields are the closest to the OEM shield you can find in the after-market today. Even many Ferrari dealers (sales and service/parts department folks) think the Yoshi's shields are the best they have ever seen.

This is not intended as solicitation but as the clarification and explanation of what we are talking about and comparing with. Lastly, I respect everyone's opinion and hope to choose whatever the shield option he/she prefers.

They must still be having email issues. I have waited over a week now for a reply to the email that I sent. I already got my shields, made a post about how they were not very nice, they replied to that and then they disappeared. I am wondering where they are?

    Guys,

Things have been busy and I've tried to answer any questions we recieved. But I probably missed one here and there. And I'll certainly subsacribe to the thread now.

Shield Loss: We've never had any reports of shields coming off at speed. Or more to the point, no one has ever called wanting just one shield! I think they stay on their pretty good and I've never lost them on my 308. Although a 355 is a -bit- faster. As for theft, the magnetic backing is not too thick so its not obvious to passers-by that they come off.

How are guys like yoshi able to sell these things and not get sued? Do they license the image from Ferrari? I understand that selling the official ferrari product like the magnetic shields is fine, but I've always wondered how someone can get away with selling an aftermarket LOGO.

They talked to us and one of our dealers when a shield was shown in the same picture as one of our fenders, which we had made only one pair of. No problem with the fender, big problem with the logo in the picture. The lawyer was nice, but made it clear that using the name, logo, horse, script, whatever on the product was not ok with them. Since the logo was not part of our product, it was just blanked out of the picture.

I agree that it may be a small potatoes kind of deal, but I'm under the impression that ferrari's lawyers don't mind dealing with the small potatoes issues, which is why I'm surprised that the aftermarket logo makers are still selling product. Maybe some of them license the logo - the big sticker manufacturers do.

Your not kidding, I sold a R/C car on ebay that looked like and was made to look like an enzo, I had the auction up for 3 days with the word ferrari enzo in the title and eBay shut down the auction because it was a violation of ferrari trademark. They normally watch this kind of stuff very closly.
