Ok, recently my 348 has not wanted to start after driving it a while. It starts fine when cold, but when hot, nothing, not even a sound or a crank, it will do absolutely nothing. I do get power, dash lights, etc, but nothing else, so I know it is not a battery issue, specially since I have a brand new Optima in there, has anyone experienced this? Is it the starter? Thanks in advance.

Could be a sticking solenoid on the starter motor. Maybe could have a sticking starter motor relay. Try give the starter a few light taps with a hammer when it doesnt want to start next time and see if it fires up. :)

Sounds similar to the problem most Mondial t owners suffer with heat soak. I would recommend a search because there are hundreds of posts on the issue. There is also some information on bypassing the affected solenoid.

I just had my starter replaced and the problem went away permanently.

This was an irritating issue for me. It is most likely the starter, relay, solenoid or wiring.

I had my starter rebuilt, same problem then bought a brand new starter, same problem. Replaced the soleniods, relays, wires etc & even did a direct wiring but still the same problem. Maybe water got into the circuits near the starter & oxidising caused it? Try spraying WD40 around the wiring. Tapping the starter sometimes work & I've had to push start the car twice.

Leave the car to cool off & it started right up again or don't turn it off for short stops. In the end I sold the car without ever finding the true problem.

    Good luck.

It's not the starter. It's either the circuitry inside the ignition lock or from the ignition lock to the starter solenoid.

Ferrari dealerships will add a 3rd party aftermarket solenoid that doesn't require a full 12 volts to cause it to trigger your starter; you can do the same. This is the quick, easy, and cheap fix. It's also Ferrari official.

Or you can remove/repair/replace your ignition circuitry. More time consuming. Problem will re-occur over time, but you will be "original." More expensive to go this route.

I had problems like that before on etypes.
if your battery is in the back try grounding the negative terminal to the engine
block with a jumper cable, try starting it.

I have a 348. If you suspect a starter problem get a volt meter and pull the lead off the starter solinoid connector then put a meter on that lead and the other to the engine (ground). Have someone turn the key to the start position.
you should see voltage enough to pull that soliniod in to engage the starter motor. If you don't you know where to start looking.
have you checked that connecter going to the starter anyway?
