What class record is he gunning for?
I had this car for 4 years or so in my garage....and had a blast with it. If I remember correctly Amir basically did the LM mods to the car....bigger turbos, intercoolers, different cams, etc. I'm sure it has a new engine as I think it grenaded at the VA City Hillclimb. Great car!! Great guy, who is actually using the car as it was meant to be.
Many cars are geared to high to easily drive off the line with out being pushed. Push cars are allowed for that reason. The car I work on has an automatic with no torque converter so we push it up to about 30 MPH or so and the driver puts it in gear then and drives off.
Thing is first set of pics has Italian plates, second has Californian plates. What gives? Same car? Also interested in what record he's going for. 220mph doesn't seem too high a record for any class that my mind is trying to fit the F40 into.
I'm guessing the starter was removed? Most cars on the Flats do this for some reason....can't be weight only....I mean what does a starter weigh, 25 pounds?
Could be 'cause they're angling for crazy top end that there's not enough gear to get 'er rolling from a dig.
That would imply that they removed some of the gears. Yes? It's not like this car only has one gear to take it to the top speed.
Could be same gears/ratios in the tranny, though if they swapped the final drive ratio for crazy top end (think opposite of drop gears), could have some trouble getting under way on her own - hence the push.
Having driven on the salt flats, I cant imagine doing 220mph purely for the feeling. The feeling is quite the opposite than expected, when doing 100mph, I felt like I was traveling at mach 1. Kudos to him for taking his car and braving the salt.
