Interesting to learn. I remember seeing this video a couple of years ago. Since then now we have the Ghost Rider series.

Isn't a 300 6.9 faster than most of the Ferraris he could've used anyways? :)

Still an innovative and great film. The sound was the best part of it They should do a series with different dubbed over car sounds. 911RSR, Trans Am spec Boss 302, Comp 365GTB/4, 512BB LM...

Didn't we meet Claude Lalouche in the VIP section of Spank last month? I thought he said he used a Fiat Topolino to shoot that.

In the video he explains that he used a mercedes witha gyroscopic system to mount the camera. Since the road noise was too much to match up to the car, the sounds were dubbed in.

It's up in the air. Some people say that he did, others say that he's still alive. It's believed that the Ghost Rider is the guy that holds the world record for fastest wheelie, who is still alive IIRC.

Could someone please translate the following into English?

"La bande son, ajoutée au montage, correspond à une sonorité Ferrari. C’est le seul trucage."

The soundtrack, added when editing, is that of a Ferrari's sound. It's the only special effect.

there was a photo that surfaced showing the Mercedes with the gyro camera on the front, supposed Lelouch also admitted that the sound was dubbed over by his 275.
    http://www.axe-net.be/rdv/presentation.php

The film was not sped up and it is not edited, the run was for real, just not in his Ferrari. The reason the sound may not sound like a classic V12 to RifleDriver is that to dub it he probably had the car in neutral and unloaded engines can sound signifantly different.

could be from the set of A Man and A Woman, which I believe LeLouche also directed. Now...here's a way to really watch it at home:

If you have a 50" plasma TV and a home theater (or theatre if you prefer) sound system, pull the a chair up to about 3 feet from the screen and crank up the volume. The size and aspect ratio of the TV is about the same size as a windshield. By sitting so close, you look "thru" the TV rather than "at it." Your eyes focus on one area of the picture while the edges of the picture fill your peripheral vision. The viewing experience becomes more lifelike and guaranteed to raise your heart rate!

One thing I'm curious about. After he passes round the Arc d'Triomphe and heads down the Champs Elysees, he appears to be traveling at rather high speed but as he overtakes other cars, they pass by rather slowly instead of flashing by. You would think that with closing speeds of perhaps 70 - 80 mph, the passes would be more dramatic - at least that's my experience when overtaking slow traffic on the autobahn.

The car Mr. LeLouche, a famous french movie director, drove in Rendez-Vouswas was a 275GTB. Upon seeing the clip the french authorities tried to prosrcute him with no avail. Enzo Ferrari did indeed see the movie and there was no comment but he smiled.

There was a guy in alt.autos.ferrari a couple of years ago insisting it "was an Alpine Renault with 250LM sound dub over"...

    Go figure.
