    Would like to do a poll on this. I constantly hear people talking about the hydralic pump failure on F1 trans and the replacement part is 16k. Can the mods please make this a poll. Please respond with your year(98 or 99), mileage and whether you have had a major trans problem or not. I would think very, very, very few have actually had a pump failure, but a certain few scare everyone else into thinking they fail all the time.

    Good idea actually. I don't know of anyone who's actually had this problem, yet every time the topic of F1 systems comes up everyone likes to crow about the $16k pump that always goes bad. Would love to know how common or uncommon this really is...

    To kick off the responses, I have a 1999 F355 GTS F1 with 19K+ miles and no pump problems to date.

    Pump failure is very rare. Actuator replacement is more common.


    Mechanical failure of that part is not the only issue with them. The lower mount is just about the lowest part of the car and physical damage from impact damage is not unusual. I have one in the shop for that now.

    98 355 F1. I should roll over 30K miles this weekend. No problems although we did replace the relay once (<$50). Personally, I think that the problem is overblown.

    I'm sure this will be a problem at some time, as all pumps have failures. But, it seems pretty clear you can get some good milage out of them. Further, I think with the info on the internet, the parts required to fix it will be considerably less then represented.

    With it's history in F1 and the pure fun I have driving it it is little consequence to me.

    - One note : One of the problems I've read about is the relay issue. If the relay keeps the pump continually running, you can be sure it will fail quicker.

    1999 355f1, 27,000 miles, so far so good, I bought the F1 so that my wife could drive it in case of an emergency, after the initial instructions she did drive back from Monterey last year about 150 miles, but prefers to be a passenger, I have had the car two years, love it.

    32k miles on my 99F1 with no problems other than the LEDs on the gear indicator burning out. Sent to Ricambi who fixed it for a few bucks.
