I think it was from TV that started it all, Magnum PI's 308, and the black Daytona Spider from some movie I can't really remember right now.

But then, I got to see one family friend's white Testarossa up close when I was 2 or so years old, and I guess that is what actually kick started my love for Ferraris.

I remeber it like it was yesterday i was about 7 years old and i saw a bright red car in this parking lot across the street from the store my parents had draged me to (bachmans yes I remeber that vividly) when i came out of the store my heart sank because the car wasnt in the spot i had seen it in, but then out of the corner of my eye i saw It coming around the corner from the back of the parking lot. My jaw hit the floor and i pointed, well the guy must have seen me becuase he gunned it and that sound has had me hooked ever since. At the time i had no clue what car it was and to this day im not sure who it was but (now) I know the car was a Testarosa and he gave me the bug!

Thanks for the link! I'll hold onto that one. Unfortunately, I don't have the VIN# on it. When Dad died, my Mom went into a state of shock. A lot of his stuff just kinda dissapeared from her. I've thought about calling the IL Secretary of State just to see if they actually still have records from that far back. Regardless, I'm in no position to actually buy a Ferrari right now. Too much on my plate right now. Something in me would still like to know where the car is, even if I couldn't have it in my garage. It'd be real neat if someone on this site was the actual owner of it!

Without a number you will never get anywhere. But there must be some clues around. You said IL, did he have the car serviced? Perhaps Lake Forest worked on the car? Someone else? In pictures, do you have a license plate number? You have to play detective. Anyone around 20 years ago is most likely still around. If he bought it new, Perhaps Ferrari can be of service to help you. If your really serious about finding that car, you have to get busy looking.

When I first started kind of looking, kicking tires, everyone on Flist knew I had no money. A lady who worked at a Ferrari salvage company who was also a member of the Flist, emailed me about a car they were offered, and she kind of turned me onto it so I could buy it at thier price. Man, I had to scrape, but I was gonna do it. The car needed front sheet metal, and a guy on the list was going to "give" me the nose sheet metal off his car if I bought it. I felt obligated. Turned out the car was even more of a dog and when I asked to run compression the owner flipped out and wouldnt sell me the car. Good thing. Turns out another lister bought it and the motor was toast.

My point is that I am telling you not to sell yourself short on what you can or can not afford. If you keep telling yourself that it will never happen. I am not telling you to act rediculous, just to put yourself in a better position and make yourself ready to purchase the car, as well as prepare a home for it. Its like knowing your wife is pregnant and a baby IS coming. No one tells themselves they cant to do it, it all works out. Same goes for something like your Dads 308. If it is still in one piece, its out there somewhere waiting for you. Prepare, and while preparing, search.

My father used to fly a Republic SeaBee amphibian airplane, 6147K, out of Sausalito Ca. back in 1947, 1948. I would love to find the wherabouts of that airplane, or knowledge of whatever became of it. I cant imagine how I would feel if he had owned a Ferrari.

Looks like the last owner was Commodore Air Service in Sassalito, CA
You can look up aircraft by their N numbers on the FAA website it is
    http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/
It gives last registered owner among other info

Yeah, I traced it as far as I could. Bob Law ran off to Costa Rica, a guy said he had IRS troubles. The guy who took over Commodore I have tried getting hold of until I gave up. He wont return any calls, and the airplane was last registered in 1977. If you know that the plane was flown in and out of salt water its whole life from 1947 until 1977, its pretty easy to assume it probably just disolved away. His dads Ferrari has a far better chance of still "being", provided it wasnt burned, wrecked, or cut up.

I had a good friend who had a 356 Porsche that I drove and fell in love with, then I saw my first Ferrari and it was all over. Magnum P.I. helped fuel that desire and after the kids graduated from college and the dog died, 10 years ago I bought my 308 which I still have. Two years ago I purchsed my 1999 355F1, would you believe my wife insisted I buy the car, it doen't get any better, great wife and a great car.

Me three, this was after I saw my first Ferrari. NJ turnpike, I was in kindergarten and a Rosso Corsa Testarosa entered a toll booth one over from us only to scream out ahead. Brilliant!

My very first Ferrari awareness came from building a plastic model (I think it was originally an Aurora or Revelle kit) of a 212 Roadster in the late 1950's. It was smaller than 1/24 scale, I think maybe about 1/32. Maybe I need to search the collectibles thread to see if this kit is still out there.

A few years later, maybe about 1964, I was given a book by author Ken Purdy called "Kings of the Road" that had a very exciting Ferrari chapter.

Finally, in 1969 I got to see my first real one. It was a 250GT Lusso - and, believe it or not I already owned a Porsche 911T and had still never sighted one!

I almost bought my first Ferrari from John Surtees. He was selling his 330GT 2+2. I bought a Lusso instead, but the idea of having Surtees' personal car was very appealing.
