I know that the most popular Ferrari color is Rossa Corsa probally because their F1 cars are red, what I don't get though is that I've heard that the F1 cars are actually Rossa Scudaria... so why do so many people get Corsa over Scudaria? I did a search and found this thread:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30693&highlight=color+chart

but in that picture the car looks almost orange to me... so what I am wondering is do they actually use Rossa Corsa on the F1 cars becuase their F1 cars don't look orange like that. Also that thread talks about how those 3 special Enzo's are actually "inked" in Scudaria because the "ink" that they use on the F1 cars is lighter than regular paint. Is it a option to order any new Ferrari in the same ink or paint that they use on the current F1 car? Any one have a picture of a Rossa Corsa and Rossa Scudaria right next to each other?

I was led to believe the orange of Scuderia is actually because it appears VERY red on television. Corsa tends to appear too dark on TV. It's a marketing thing -- at least on the F1 cars.

As always, please correct me if I'm mistaken!

My understanding is that Rossa Corsa came about as a result of Marlboro's sponsorship.

Ferrari changed the color to that of Marlboro, and then named it as above.

I have seen the orangy red which I don't like. I don't know what it's called.

I had heard Rosso Dino, but I am not certain.

Scuderia is nearly an orange to correspond better with the Marlboro branding, I believe the f1 cars changed from Corsa to Scuderia in the mid 90's. Also I may be making it up but I believe it is also more orange because it appears a better red on TV that way.

That makes sense, but is Rossa Corsa the exact same color as that "Marlboro" red? And if someone wanted to order a car the exact same color as the current F1 car?

I am searching for pictures of old Ferrari F1's to see if it's the more orange looking Scudaria color...

Corsa is traditional Ferrari red. Scuderia is the orangey color that the F1 team uses because it matches Marlboro red on TV. In direct sunlight in person it looks more red. In indirect light it looks orange. You can really see the difference when a Corsa car is next to a Scuderia car. I personally would never order a car in Scuderia because it is not a Ferrari color, rather a concession to a Sponsor (that pays about $120 millon a year for the privilege!)

So the original Ferrari F1 color is Rossa Corsa, and they changed to the orange color just so that it will appear as "Marlboro red" on TV?

Was Enzo still living when they made the desicion to re-paint the F1 cars for a sponsor?

In fact the first red and the original rosso used on a ferrari was Rosso Barchetta (see Pic) This colour was used on an Alpha Romeo called "Bimotores" when Enzo raced for them. Then Enzo used Rosso Barchetta coloured Alpha Romeos with the ferrari sheilds on the wings (see picture of a 1934 model).
So when the phrase "blood red" was used it was indeed the rosso Barchetta red that is being refered to.
MB: The Rosso Barchetta colour seems to change colour tone in various lights. Here are also two shots of my car in two lights.

That is stunning, I like it better than Corsa... is Rosso Barchetta a standard color option for new F-Car orders?

The colour was realy first used in 1994 on early 355s. In fact the very first 355 made was painted in this colour. The paint was used on GTBs and GTSs until 1997/8. But on spiders it was ONLY used for one year 1995. I think the colour car be asked for by special order.
Here is another shot of the car were again the colour tone changed in the light. And a few more shots of it next to standard Rosso.

The New Racing Red is a very expensive paint...see resto thread on the Aussie 360NGT for an AWESOME paint job!

In the thread it is mentioned that besides extreme cost, it degrades fairly rapidly in direct sunlight, so not good over the long haul on street cars..

The old red is "real Ferrari red" in my mind then, (on chaa's car) the crew clothes for "TV red' are indeed more orange, and Rosso Dino is more orange than that..

4i2fly had (still has) a 360 in Rosso Dino and it's a striking color.....

    So which is "Ferrari Red"

    Rosso Barchetta: Original/classic cars
    Rosso Scudaria: Current F1 Car
Rosso Corsa: Most popular red ordered on new F-Cars

Is there an "official" answer to this, or is it a opinion/poll question?

    They ALL are!

You should see the list of "blues"

There's a legendary quote (Dan Gurney??)

"That's not Ferrari red...we rolled the car last race, and resprayed it Ford Truck red...."

From an early Pebble Beach track event, IIRC....

From my research, Rosso Corsa did not come into existence on production cars until 1980. The traditonal bright red seen in the late 1960s up until 1970 was Rosso Chiaro, which has more orange in it than Rosso Corsa.

I knew that was the car......

He was very nice, and was one of a few Fcars to meet Valeria and I at Mario's house. A weekend to remember!

Maybe the car is best forgotten!

We forgot to call ahead to SF for a parking place though and left quietly after touring the gun implacement above GG Bridge........

Did he get another Fcar or give up on 'em?

He doesn't like 430's so he is keeping his eye out for the right 360 to come along.
