Well, the X in my area recently sold. My thirst for an italian beast remains unquenched.

personally, i think the next best "affordable" Italian classic is the 105 series Alfa, keep an eye out for those suckers.

I bought a 4 year old X1/9 in 1988 as my commuter car. It had 30K miles on it. I put 140K miles on it. It was one of the most reliable cars I've owned. I replaced the timing belts myself a few times. I replaced the water pump once. I had the clutch replaced once, and had the gearbox freshed up while I was there. It was underpowered, but still a blast to drive. It's an incredibly space efficient package, especially compared to my 308. I loved that car and would still have it today if it hadn't rusted away. To be fair, I lived on the CA coast during this time, which is incompatible with Italian cars (all my FIATS and Alfas rusted big time).

I was tempted to buy this nice black one for $5000
Had a nice amount of resto work to it. But then I remembered the acronym for FIAT. Fix it again Tony! Nice little car though, maybe I'll break down and buy it if it's still there.

I always thought about doing an electric conversion on one. Be faster, lower maintenance, and no gas to worry about.

there's actually a few people who've done it. i can't remember the site(s) but google for electric powered vehicles and fiat and you should come up with some stuff. problem is i think they got a LOT heavier... like 300kg, which totally ruins the best part of the car, the handling.

WOW....talk about a blast from the past.

I remember when these were new. Great cars fo the $$$ at the time. My first car ever was a FIAT 124 coupe. Never bought an X1/9 though......
