anytime simon. I never post over here, but am loving this forum more and more. Sorry guys die hard Porsche fan, though what I would do for a 360 CS...
No. Really just in the research phase right now. I am hoping to get a chance to see a early DB4 and a DB5 side by side. Not many in the US,... probably will involve a trip. Got a couple books and have talked to 2 people with DB4 experiience,... nothing to discourage me yet. No chance I'll buy until late 2007 (business expansion) There is a beautiful Ferrari 330 America in FML currently as well... a car like that is also tempting. That's part of the problem. 250GTE/300 america keeps "calling"... I want to research both cars... never driven either. I like the looks of series 1-4 DB4's the best...
I think this would fit the bill for a family looking for an AM: http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/5884/1qa6.jpg http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/262/2it2.jpg
I know we were talking about 250 GTE vs 456 the other day, but I really like the 456 Venice a lot. It would be hard to find one because they are pretty rare like that AM.
According to the Forza buyer's guide on 456's, "venice " referred to the series of custom 456's including the convertibles, estates (wagon's), and sedans. As far as I know there is only 1 venice estate is in private hands... I actually prefer the cabrio's. The Strahman 456 convertible coversions are nice as well.
The DB4 is such a classy car especially the DB4 GT Zagato. I wonder what the chances of finding and/or affording one of those are. I saw one in the flesh many years ago and it was simply stunning. http://www.timcottingham.com/db4_5_6_s/images/DSCN0157.jpg
Bwah-hahahahahaha. My chances are nil unless I am diving at the great barrier reef an manage to pull one of Bill gate's children from the mouth of a Great White... http://www.sportscarmarket.com/profiles/2005/May/English/index.html $2-3M US. I honestly hope your chances are better than mine.
My uncle that lives in new jersey, has a db4 i dont remember what year but he had it for 12 years and its bright silver on red. He loves the car to death but hates the service bills every other week.
They usually have a great sound... However, the body is anything but simple to work on. They used the Superleggera system (by Touring), where basically the Alloy body was fitted over a steel skeleton. This lead at the time to contact corrosion between steel and alloy. Of course there are probably no body parts available, but since these cars where handbuilt, parts don't mean a thing, rebuild them. And thats' expensive. IMHO, i'd rather chase for a DB5. It's more of an obvious choice, but it has the cute DB4GT style headlamps, kind of adaptive suspension, electric windows etc etc. Either way, great choice.
Zagato's most beautiful work in my opinion. The standard DB4 is no wallflower either of course. >8^) ER Image Unavailable, Please Login
McLaren M6 GT. I can't speak to it's authenticity directly, however, most of the cars at the Rodeo Concours are well chosen so this one must have a good story. Those pics are from 2004 - you can see the rest here. >8^) ER Image Unavailable, Please Login
