If you'd spent any time in Holland or with the Dutch you'd think that it was funny as hell!!! Especially if you divorced one ;) Okay, so maybe it's a niche film.

Bad one? Boxing Helena - "In fact, one of the people who stayed away was the film's original star, Kim Basinger. At the time she was one of Hollywood's beautiful people. Attractive, sexy, and she had a string of commercially (though perhaps not critically) successful hits. For Lynch's purpose (however flawed), she needed a beautiful starlet type, and Basinger would have been a considerable draw for film fans. Basinger, thinking who knows what, agreed to do the film.

    Then she read the script.

It was only a verbal contract, and Basinger wanted out. Then she decided she was out, contract be damned. The makers of the film sued her, and they won. It cost Basinger $8.1 million (the initial settlement) to get out of this movie. The lawsuit, and various counter-suits and appeals, was a serious blow to Basinger's career. (Well, The Marrying Man and The Real McCoy didn't help either.) Bad movie or no, Hollywood frowns on people who break contracts. For most of the mid to late ‘90s, Basinger had no substantial work, and actually declared bankruptcy at one point. Recently, she is showing signs of a comeback with her role in LA Confidential. But before this, prospects were pretty dim for Kim."

Totally disagree, Donnie Darko is one of my favorite films. Very deep, sad and very well done.

    Yep.

Sure the co-star isn't first rate, and the movie as a whole is a bit lacking, but the jokes are first rate! Had me laughing for days. I do agree that it is vulgar though, definitely not PG.

Stanley Kubrick was a great director. Just about all his movies are top notch, and I believe Eyes Wide Shut would have been too had he not died in the editing process.

    No, I'm not.

But seriously, if you liked it and had a good time, that's great. I had to surf F chat in order to make it though.

Recently attempted to watch the Number 23 with Jim Carrey...took me three days to get through it...yuck.

Its interesting how different movies appeal to different people in such a polarizing way. Anchorman is my favorite comedy of all time...but I understand its not everyones cup of tea.

    Other unwatchables

    POTC: At Worlds End
    Superman Returns
    Bareback Mountain ;)
The Fountain (which I really wanted to like)

I loved the first 2 of the series, but that one was just bad.

Oceans 12 was terrible too. They tried too hard. I didn't even bother seeing 13.

SCI-FI Fantasy messes: I forget the name of it, Signs or something, but -

Mel Gibson where the aliens come down to earth for to collect humans for edible purposes.

A few anomolies: the Aliens -

They navigated light years across the universe but need crop circles to lead the way to victims houses.

They have overcome the mechanical problems of intergalactic flight, but are too dumb to be able to pick a lock or even turn a doorknob.

Their ships are invisible, (cloaking devices) but they occasionally let that slip and get caught by the Mexican papparizi...they are also caught on amatuer video just walking around in broad daylight.

They are eaten alive by ordinary tap water (as if it were sulfuric acid), won't go near a lake or river, but are too dumb to analyze the human bodies which they want to barbeque, which are about 90% water.

    the Humans -

Preferred method of killing is swatting with a Lewisville slugger, but in the heat of the moment our hero apparantly cannot hold "label side up" and splinters it like Sammy Sosa. All this while a 12-guage and a perfectly good 30.06 are visible hanging in a rack.

The butcher knife he sliced off it's finger with under a door (like a piece of green bologna), is not considered to be a possible viable weapon, either - for unknown reasons.

Asthma medicine is a good antidote for alien poison gasses.

Your religious faith (lost when your wife was killed in ordinary car crash) is regained when you see real-life monsters from space for various inexplicable reasons.

I liked it less than you did.

Others that were too dumb to sit through:

Ghost Rider (unless you like the burning skeleton effect ... a lot...)
The Good German (great looking film until you realize you don't know what's been going on for the last hour)
Pearl Harbor (Oh Rafe! Rafe! -- oh give me a break. Alec Baldwin permanently establishes himself as a cardboard idiot)
Die Another Day - Halle Berry almost destroys the Bond franchise (OK to watch on mute...) with the dumbest dialogue in the series
