Gaak! Bidding competition. Apparently a parts dealer from Canada. Maybe someone here (Peter? Blaine? Jay?) knows who this is.. sucata77
The more that I thought about it I was going to offer to buy it after the auction for a project. I won't now, that $5k is better saved for a different F-car. I figure that I can do the mechanical, electrical and bodywork, that leaves only the interior for professionals. Might have been a fun project. The Slutmobile II.
A similar one languished several times on eBay a few months ago in the same price-range. It took several times for it to finally be sold to a real buyer. Wish only I'd known that before, because I would have picked the other one up between sales. It too had all the parts I need, except for the rear window.
How many of you watched the end of the auction? At the las tminute the number of bids went down, he was cancelling bids saying the car is not for sale anymore, what happened to no reserve Sold to the highest bidder. Wierd.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGHH!!!!!!! I don't know why my bid was cancelled. Why did it cancel my bid???? #$&@#(!!!!! For the last 2min., I kept trying to put in 6900 then 7000.... It just kept taking me back to, "bid cancelled". Very frustrating.... I am not a happy camper! I'm very sorry I didn't get the car, guys. Really. I tried very hard. I sent him an eMail. The sellers name is gary. He gave me his phone number before the 1st bid was made. But I didn't call after there was a bid, I just figured I'd play it striaight and be the highest bidder. I called a few minutes ago, and the number has been disconnected. So I don't know what went on... Maybe I'll hear back from him. Who knows?
I've got $5 that says you'll see this car up for sale under a different ebay ID within a couple of months unless somebody like Tom or Rutlands made a side deal with the guy.
Probably because he expected to get well over $10K for it and when it didn't look like it was going to happen, he reverted to one of his shills...just a theory. I got an Esprit off ebay in May of 05. The car came up, I contacted the guy, we talked on the phone, decided on a deal and picked up the car 2 weeks later. IMHO, if the seller is not willing to give an outright (reasonable $) and sell it for that (not hopping for the home run in a bidding competition)...walk away.
David, Where can I find out what they're selling? It's not on eBay. And their site just points to eBay. Where is it?
I sent an eMail to Gary (the seller: sunshinecf) asking why he cancelled my bid 2min. before the end of the auction, and then refused my subsequent bids for more money than the guy who eventually won. I told him, 'If you pre-sold the car and then just let the auction run, I don't think that was very ethical' and demanded an explaination. I explained that there were a number of Ferrari enthusaists watching the end of that auction. I was the one buying the car, but that there were a number of folks who had an inerest in the car and that what he did, did not go unnoticed by them. The bad phone number he gave me is: Does anybody know where that number might be located?
The 330 area code is the Akron/Canton area of Ohio. (If I can recall, the e-bay location of the gt4 was Canton, Ohio) I don't know all the e-bay rules but, is there some way to leave bad feedback for this guy if you don't win the auction?
Did we miss something really cool inthis thread....that lancia stratos frame sure looked cool. throw in the 3000HP f-car superchared engine and ou have something really specail.
If you are interested in that car, you can PM me for some details on it. Although, 300hp is probably WAY TOO MUCH HP for that car. They're skittish enough with just the 170hp from the 246. They have a nasty tendancy to swap-ends in a flash.
Yes. I've sent him 2 eMails via eBay. I also sent a heads-up to the eBay complaincy folks, but I assume it may take awhile for them to get to it. Whatever reason he had for cancelling my bid's and then letting the other person take it, in the last few seconds of the auction, cannot be good. Akron/Canton. That's right. I remember seeing that on eBay now. Thanks. doesn't do much good though. A search for just the 7-digit phone number gets nothing on Google. Grrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got the following response: After my usual little investigative hunt, I responed as follows: The car was originally metallic blue with boxer trim and was first sold in Michigan in in August of 1977 for $20,000. It was crashed in 1979 and suffered front-end damage. The next record available on the car, is your post on eBay. It does not appear to have been reported as stolen. I can check it out tomorrow for certain. If you still want to sell it, I'd like to buy it. Can anyone here run a check on the vin?
