I think the driver you are talking about is Brian Redman. Forghieri (I think) told Redman something like " Good drive. You will drive for ferrari in formula 2 for the rest of the season. At the end of the year you will move up to formula 1." Redman replied "Mr. Forghieri , if I drive for ferrari, I will be dead by the end of this year! No thank you. " .
Just finished watching it for the FIRST time. Great film. The footage of Monza especially was spectacular. Never seen it anywhere here in Adelaide before, not shown on free-to-air TV, in the video store, nowhere. I ordered the DVD over the Internet from the US. At first I thought it wouldn't play as it was Region 1, so I left it in the packaging for a few weeks. I decided to give it a go yesterday and to my surprise, no problem! Oh yeah, and that French girlfriend is smoking.
"I don't smoke." But she does sing: Françoise Hardy http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0362634/ http://www.francoise-hardy.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran%C3%A7oise_Hardy (You can find anything on the internet )
I bought the latest DVD Release last week. I have never seen it before. I haven't found time to watch it yet. Hopefully this weekend.
I just got it for my birthday. I knew the movie but only had a VCR copy of the German translated version, not the same as the original I really like the bonus disk with the "making of.." etc. Best, Peter
Anyone ever see this movie when it first aired in the Cinerama Dome/Theater? Amazing, but I still remember noticing the 3 screens attached together and the feeling of watching 3 movies at times during it. It was way ahead of its time and was more like a media event than a mere movie. I crank up the DSP, drop the lights and hunker down on my couch in front of the wide screen. It's pretty nice, but not as special as in the Cinerama 40ish years ago! I got to get Le Mans on DVD now.
I just watched it like 3 days ago, awesome movie and I have to say that the in-car shots are pretty amazing for 1966!
This may have been done because at certain GPs in that era, the driver's names were posted on the car on large placards; I suppose doing this would make altering the real-race footage to show the movie characters' names (if necessary) would be easier. In 1967, I first saw the movie at the Cinerama theater in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I had already received the issue of Popular Mechanics that showed how they had done the photographic special effects, so I had an idea of what to expect. But the Spa and Monza footage was utterly spectacular in Cinerama!
I barely remember seeing this at the movies so I got the DVD, Then I ran into these laminated mini posters. Image Unavailable, Please Login
