Nice post. Looks like I struck a nerve. I guess this is the second time this week you have been called out for your worthless drivel. Go find an accord/kia debate and maybe your opinion will matter to someone.

Sorry to hear about the G :(. Good thing you got the Sport. From what I've read in a previous thread the regular RR has several issues while the Sport seems to be fairly rock solid.

Mercedes build quality and reliability is nonexistant. The wife's SL55 has been absolute garbage.

Porsche is getting better after the lackluster debut of the 996.

    Absent,

I think you made the right choice. 997TT is a great car, but if you're looking for a true sports car, there may be some better (but thats just my preference). The SL65 I have not driven, but have an SL55. It's a great car and it's luxury nature belies its performance.

Jeff_M, I agree with you re:advice from youngsters. There seems to be a lot of the 18-22 crowd who have no problems dishing out advice to guys thinking of 512M's vs. Gallardos and SL65's vs 997TT's. I wonder if their opinions come from which car is considered more "totaly hot" by their classmates at school, or if it comes from which one they were able to win more with in GT on PS2.

He asked for opinions and he got them. Everyone and anyone can present their opinion here as long as they do it respectfully and courteously; it's what makes the community.

For a daily driver? I think he made a great choice with the SL. Both cars are damned fast, but a hardtop/convertible with a usable trunk and comfortable ride probably edges out the more track-ready 997TT, IMO.

My SLK was fairly reliable (minor electrical issues), and when it did have issues the dealer went to great lengths to service it properly and minimize my inconvenience (even picking the car up at my house and bringing me an M-B loaner).

There's an understandable bias on this board towards hardcore sports cars, but real world driving isn't always a fast fling through canyon roads.

SL65. Too many 997 Turbo's around, even though they are great cars.

I've driven a few AMG SL's but the 65 is the cream of the crop. The torque from that engine is unreal. It's so stealthy looking too, and the options are fit for a king.

Plus, it's a 'vert. Take both for a test drive if you can. When you start the 65's V12 it's pure badass. On top of that V12, you have turbo spool. So awesome.

This is Ferrari chat. The presumption is that people own or have owned expensive cars, probably have experience with them, etc.

I don't mind if someone says "I read the mags and the 997 is the one to get!" or "I prefer the looks of the SL". But when someone is going to hand out advice they purport to be honest relevant advice based on being a teenager who pimps his ricer around the mall to pick up high school chicks, it detracts from the conversation.

I am with you. Thats what I was trying to say to the other guy and with his poor reading comprehension he thought I was talking about him personally when I was making a general statement. I guess its no big deal. Most people asking serious questions know how to filter out the crap in the responses anyway!

I never had that presumption when I joined here. I don’t mind someone giving me stats/opinions or whatever on cars they don’t own or drive, its what car guys do and its just more info for me. But I do mind it when people make fun of the cars another person drives, its kind of shallow and immature (especially when it comes from F-car owners who I always mistakenly assume will act like gentlemen to some degree. Once again though the overused saying money doesn’t = class holds true in this conversation). If im not mistaken didn’t one of our own members go from a dodge neon to an F40? And yall don’t know Benz, everything after the 126 is crap (few exceptions E500 (looks like crap though but I like the Porsche tie ins), maybe the G wagon (but I haven’t driven one and the last time I sat in one was when I was 22 years old so obviously my opinion doesn’t count), and the W140. My first car was a 123 240D, now that was a Benz.
