proper 308 door panel mount?

    Hey all,

    Getting my seats and door panels re-upholstered . . . what is the correct way the door panel mounts?

    There are the two nuts and two screws that mount the arm rest . . . what else? The driver and passenger side appear to have extra screws added in various random places on my car. . . any factory "clips" that should be there?

    The small screws just go straight into the door metal.

    How many "little" screws should there be?

    One door panel has two or three around where the speaker is, the other doesn't.

    The other door panel has two along the bottom edge and one going through the leather which I know isn't right.

    My Euro 308 has the same pattern on both doors:
    1- thru the leather w/a decorative washer up close to the window, above the lock
    1 - thru the leather down where the panel curves under the door.
    1 - at the bottom middle of the carpet
    1 on each side of the speaker thru the carpet.

    I may have missed one somewhere as it's been a couple of years since I last pulled a door panel.

    I forgot that the speakers were mounted with the press on clips for sheet metal screws. The door panel just had clearance holes drilled thru it.

    Yep, one exposed at the rear edge, with cone washer, and the deal with the speaker grill is three are short, but the lower forward one is long enough to nail the door!

    The armrest studs do the rest, IIRC..........

    I just had my door to bits last week, there is a lot of variation in the design of arm rests and trims so fixing might vary... However for my EURO 308GTS 1981 carburettor I recall

    rear edge of door trim two screws through the return edge (with cup washers) into tags welded to the door metalwork.

    bottom edge of trim one screw through the return bottom edge (with cup washer) into a tag welded to the door metalwork.

    Two bolt studs welded to the door which pick up the front of the arm rest...
    Two self tapping screws throught the rear end bottom edge of the arm rest, throught the trim and into the door metalwork

    Finally four self tapping screws though the speake grille, throught the trim and into the door metal work.

    To all concerned,
    I will be addressing these concerns next week (wife out of town) when I remove the door panels (again) this time for refinishing. The previous posts have answered the base questions but here are a couple of other concerns.

    There is a welt around the edge of the door panel. As the leather ages it shrinks and that causes the welt to pull away from the panel. It is all but impossible to reinstall/re-cement correctly as it no longer fits the door panel. The temptation is to just remove it and reinstall the panel without it. However, the designers depended upon the welt to close the opening between the panel edge and the door metal. Without it installed, there is an ugly and probably uneven gap between the panel and the door proper. That is how my doors look today.

    I will install new welt (vinyl covered, not leather) before I refinish the panel back to fresh blue. As for installation, if your panel has been on and off a time or two, chances are the vapor barrier is missing or damaged and the screw holes are wallowed out. Stock size screws no longer hold and larger screws are gaudy. The barrier should be replaced before reassembly and the screw holes in the tabs sticking out from the door can be drilled out a little and captive clips installed to receive the correct size screws. That is the path I am taking. Please remember that the original screws and their cup washers are black, not chrome.

    Hopefully next week I can photograph all of these processes as I rebuild my window motors, replace the window squeegees (which necessitate removal of the window frames) and clean/repair, as needed/lube/adjust the locks and latches.
