There seems to be an issue with Nascar regarding the confederate flag, saying that it prevents new, fresh, and diverse fans from being interested in the sport......

Personally, no flag would prevent my interest in something that I would find appealing.....and being that nascar has been around for some time I doubt that the "fans" they are looking for are in the shadows because of a flag. Nascar just isn't appealing to me, and from conversations i've had with others around me 2 people expressed interest themselves. Then again we aren't from the south.

    Thoughts?

*Edit* And not to piss off any Nascar fans here, I just don't have patience to watch those guys race around the track hundreds of times. I don't watch NBA games either. Matter fact the only sport I really watch is major football games. The rest I find the stats.

Can't be relevent today because most of the drivers are not from the south:

Jeff Gordon, Robby Gordon, Jimmy Johnson from Cal, Tony Stewart from Ohio or Ind, Kenseth from WI, Busch's from Vegas, Sadler's from VA, Labonte's from TX, and the list goes on.
Some are from the 'south', but nowhere near as many as 30 years ago.

NASCAR hasn't had a problem attracting new fans. If you look at it now, many white-collar and Northern-type people are a big core of the fan base.

I don't care what flags the fans have up there. I'm watching the racers. With that said, I mostly only watch Talladega and Daytona races. I will try to watch as many as possible when JPM arrives in the Cup next year.

I watch a ton of sports...pro and college bball, pro and college football, F1, NASCAR, and tennis. All of these I pay a lot of attention to on a regular basis. I catch some MLB games a few times, but not really. Some NHRA, too.

To get to the point all i'm saying is Nascar needs to let up on the flag issue. It has a huge fanbase, if not more than the NFL and being that most tracks are placed in the south since orgin, They should expect the flag to be a important symbol to the loyal fansbase period. Now while the confederate flag may have different meanings, in the end it represented southern heritage.
    Good and bad.

Well then Yahoo needs to get more organized in it's delivery.
