It was probably my car spotted. The F40 is surprisingly easy to drive around town. Plenty of low down torque and light weight lets the car easily pull away in top gear with the engine barely above idle speed. I like to treat my engine better and don't do that, but top gear is very useable around town.

This is one of the features that makes the car so great. It is a kitten around town without any turbo boost below 3000 rpm. Unleash those turbos (greater than 3000 rpm) and the car becomes a monster. On a track the turbos are continually spooled up, and there is no turbo lag.

I couldn't let those remarks go by without an apposing view. Beauty is said to be in the eyes of the beholder, and to me (and many others) it is a beautiful looking 2+2. Don't under estimate the difficulty of designing a practical, compact but roomy 2+2, that is mid engined and has a rear and front boot. It is a tribute to Pinanfirino's design skills. On the road I get lots of looks, and often there are admiring people around when I return to the parked car. I find my Mondial 3.2 a great car, greatly under valued, and therefore a real bargain. Because my younger children can come as passengers, they would agree. Around town they have plenty of performance.
I selected the Mondial 3.2 (270 hp) as the best value, more modern looking, and I found a big jump in price to the Mondial T.
You have to own a Mondial to fully appreciate it, and mine has earned it's place in my garage, next to my Ferrari F40, Boxter (son's), Porsche 911 cab and Merc 500SL.
And if anyone wants to buy a Ferrari at a modest price, the Mondial is the way to go. It is therefore a good entry level Ferrari, with lower maintenance costs than other models.

hi Allan, it is for this reason that Bertone did a far better job than Pininfarina with the GT4 than the Mondial IMHO.

The Mondial design is overly busy and smacks of trying to make it look pretty while trying to be practical (?!?!?!!? a Ferrari) but they failed in comparison to the GT4's clean, well balanced looks.

I've been in a Mondial T cabriolet with 2 young kids in the back and 2 large adults and the performance is incredibly good, every bit as good as any 348 and as a school bus (which is what this guy bought it for) is second to none.

I've only ever seen one Mondial I would ever have bought myself, belonged to a friend of mine in Sydney, he reckoned it wouldn't do above 180kph so sold it to the current FCA VP (goober's mate), the car looked stunning the last time I saw it on the SA FNR but not better than any of the GT4s on the rally.

Which one would you take ?

Just to pick up a detail..

Mondial 3.2 have 270BHP in non cat Uk/Euro spec, but in AUS/US/Swiss spec, they only have 255BHP... which is just small difference, but they also have a lot less torque and a bit more weight, and that's what I really notice... being more used to UK cars.

    The difference is remarkable.

A UK 328, with a sports silencer fitted too... is a seriously quick car. An AUS spec 3.2 car is more than adequate, but less than impressive.

Goodmorning Allan. Difference in opinions is healthy for you they reckon. You are correct............everyone has different tastes and beauty is in the eye of the beholder for sure. You love you're Mondial, but I dont. Thats fair enough I guess. :) I agree with moderetti on this one. I love the GT4 more than the Mondial. Always have and I always will. ;)
