help please!!!!!!, my recently bought mondial 3.2 had un unnerving problem, ocassionally and without warning, will not start, igintion lights all ok but the engine does not turn over, just a low pitch slow hum comes from the rear, the solenoid appears not to be operating the starter? last week it refused to start in my garage at home from cold,, a shallow blessing I suppose, found a terminal loose on the starter solenoid, so repaired with a new terminal and it started just fine, for a couple of weeks,
yesterday it done just the same, when hot after a 50 mile run, whilst out in a town car park,, eeeeek, wiggled a few wires up and about the coil packs area on the near side top of engine bay and by chance I suppose, It started up and fired, have de corroded a few mushy looking terminals, but even with them disconnected, the engine turns over so its not them, any ideas? can i get a wiring diagram etc to trace the starter wiring, makes me not want to take the car out in case I get marooned in some undesirable place and I tend to frequent most of them!
    thanks

While it could be a myriad of things, the first thing to do in a Mondial is to ensure your battery is fully charged, even if it is new.

It seems that Mondials develop a slow constant current drain as they get older, which while not proven, many be from aging and delamination of the fusebox circuit card or faulty relay. With the battery in the front and starter in the rear in conjunction with the long wire from the starter switch to the solenoid, the Mondial is VERY sensitive to even a mildly discharged battery - much more so than a "regular car".

I had a similar problem to yours - I now keep mine on a tricke charger and it always starts. When I travel, I disconnect the battery with the rotary switch at the negative terminal.

There is another thread on Mondial fusebox replacement where one FChatter is re-manufacturing these boards. I am hopeful that this will rectify the problem.

All of that said, it could be a more "normal" failure like that iof the solenoid - but - check that the battery is FULLY charged first before you spend a lot of money.

    Good luck!!

If the 2.5B (white) start command line isn't getting to at least about +9V at the solenoid during a warm restart request, I'd attack the wiring (e.g., where the power to the ignition switch goes thru the w connector or the C1 or C4 connectors).

If the 2.5B start command line is getting to +9V (or more), and the solenoid doesn't fire when warm, I'd get a new WAI solenoid.

Just some ideas -- good hunting...

I still had a problem after replacing the battery, it was an annoying intermittent fault that lasted ages, I replaced the battery with an Optima Red Top and I haven't had any problems since
