Flames out the back of new Stebro

Without unburnt fuel in the system your pistons will melt. That's why air/fuel ratio is critical; you want lean enough to make max power but must have enough unburnt fuel to cool pistons. It is unburnt fuel that cools the pistons. Too lean and your pistons will melt.

Flames are common on unloaded decel.
Nothing bad is happening.

After hearing about Stebros' fit and finish I'd think you should be happy that it is sealing and holding well (ouch!)

 

Would I be experiencing this too if I put on my test pipe and the X-ost muffler on my 84 308 GTS QV?

 

On a drive last night along a dark road I could see the flash on decel light up the side of the road [with the aforementioned muffled pop]. Needless to say, I had to accel/decel for the next 10 mins once I found out...

This past Saturday night while driving with some friends back from Nashville, one noted a blue flame out of my drivers side exhaust tip upon decelerating. After reading this thread I expected a flame or two but the blue color surprises me. Kinda cool.

 

Just another data point: I run my car about 1/8 turn rich, just so that I can get the backfire. And then I drive around and decelerate as much as I can, which of course means I must accelerate first.

What's the problem?
My car does the same thing, and I have an ansa. It just adds to the character of the car. That's why these cars are so great!

My buddy told me about the flames like it was a huge problem. I didn't explain it to him as he'll never understand.
Some people have to live in a perfect world where everything runs perfectly and nothing can have glitches or shoot flames out. They have to have their cupholders, and perfect fuel injection and everything has to work perfectly all the time, or it's a P.O.S. (I'm not saying shooting flames out is a problem) I'm just ranting.

I had a large recip airplane once where at night you could see a blue flame coming out of the exhaust on take-off.
