The car I am buying, 355 1999, has only one key and black alarm control. What is a complete set? And how much will it cost to replace complete set and what are the issues surrounding the red master control, it is currently missing.

It is my understanding that it runs around $700 to "remaster and replace" your fobs. But I would put more emphasis on engine/chasis diligence than keys. ;)

Only and this is a big only, if the security code comes with the car. If that is gone (and they are a big percentage of the time) he is SOL.

No it is a little piece of metal that has a code stamped on it. Mine were attached to the spare key and red fob the last owner gave me..

    Neither.

It comes in a sealed business sized envelope with FNA letterhead. Inside it has a privacy envelope that needs to have perforations ripped off to open. Inside will be a 4 digit numeric code. It is required to access the security systems learning program to allow it to communicate with new remotes.

The car is delivered with it in the owners books.

Yup, congrats, you got it. Did you also get the radio code card? It is about the size of a business card with a 4 digit code. You will need that # if you ever turn the battery off or it goes dead. That # however there are sources for. I have even gotten radio codes off the internet. So much for theft proofing them.

When I got my car, there was only one key.. and a red remote..

It took two months to get a complete set AND a new code from Ferrari.. but now I have a complete set... The system had to be reprogrammed..

    Price is around 700

Well if its the same as the Chrysler I sell it is the code and the number coordinates to the depth of the cut for the pins in the tumbler, so if you lose all the keys and have the numbers you can cut it with a special machine that will cut by the numbers unless of course if you have a transpponder key set and then it gets all F$%ed up.

For 1700 dollars, you can replace the whole alarm ECU which comes with the ECU and all three new key fobs (one red one two black ones). I found this out when my alarm ECU quit talking to the OBDII unit.

Like the other guy said, maybe key codes. Are they about 1/4 x 3/4 inch? If so that is it.

to all, you do not need your code when you buy the set from ferrari the cost is $600 you get (1)RED AND (2) BLACK AND YOUR CODE. when they come in it is about $150 for the dealer to set it up. end of story. bought my 355 last year with one remote(black) and 1 key and wanted to make sure i had a duplicate just incase. that's it plain and simple. the only down side is you must have the title to your car for the ferrari dealer to fax it to fna and it takes about 6 weeks to get the new remotes with your code.

I had the whole alarm ECU and key fobs overnight. No waiting for that. Although I did need proof that I owned the car.

How many cars have you done this to? I have reprogrammed many cars for new remotes and you need the existing code. If you choose not to believe me read the manual, it is in black and white.

well i just did it in january with my 98 355 spider no code, no books just one key and one black fob. ferrari keeps records but if you are not the owner of the car ferrari will not do it for you, makes no difference if you are a repair shop or non ferrari dealer. title had to be in my name and remotes and codes were sent direct to algar ferrari where my car was being worked on. still took 6 weeks to get remotes and algar had to do all the paperwork.

Ferrari USED to share those codes with dealers. Now they want to sell complete systems.

you maybe right but i purchased them in late jan 2006, algar got them in mid march and programed my car in april. since then all is good. could also be that i was spending 10k in work and have used them in the past and they wanted to keep me happy? i also had to give the service manger (mark) the title of my car, so that algar could fax it into fna.because i was not allowed to do it myself. no big deal because i was having a 30k service being done and i wanted to inspect the work along the way but still a 160 mile round trip.

This week while at Ferrari of Atlanta they were finishing up my new alarm box with the three new key fobs and they told me what that 4 digit code was really used for. So the four digit code, while used to add new key fobs, it can also be used to start the car without using the key fob at all.
Here is where it gets interesting, and I have not tried this but it sounds reasonable.

So assuming your code was 1234

If you went to start the car without the key fob, you would put the key in, attempt to start and take the key out.
Secondly you would put the key in, attempt to start. Turn the key back but not taking it out and attempt to start again to make 2 tries.
Then take the key out again.
Third, you would put the key in, attempt to start. Turn the key back but not taking it out and attempt to start again twice to make three tries total.
Basically each time you do the number of attempts equal to the digit in your code and take the key out.
Once you have unlocked the car with the number of tries, it should start.

Oh and he told me 0 = 10 tries since I have a 0 in mine.

So somebody who has lots of time, try this and let me know what it does.

Also FNA does not share codes with dealers. What happens is that your local dealer would keep that code in the file for the car, in a special field they have in the computer. Mine is now in that field. Since dealers do not share info, it would have to come from the place where the car was first delivered. Or somewhere where they have serviced the alarm.
