Hey guys, I was talking to the Ferrari Dealership here and asked them about the full conversion from exhaust manifold all the way back. He said that the 355 has a habbit of spitting flames when you do this. Is this true? I have never seen this. Have any 355 owners seen this? 1995 OBD1.

What brand of system back were Dealership talking about Xavior? That would look cool though

Seen a picture of a 348 on the Forum here spitting flames out the exhaust so I would imagine a rich tuned 355 would do the same but not look as good as a 348 would  :p

I made a set of test pipes for my 348 with my brother, Sounded nice at high RPM  but at low RPM sounded terrible  No flames either :( :(

Here's a picture I took quickly of it, Have removed them and replaced with stock system since the picture was taken ;)

Looks like you gutted a cat to make the tests pipes?

If so you would get a lot of resonance with a gutted cat as the exhaust gases swirl inside them due to their design vs a straight test pipe.

Nah man. Cats were left there and are stock. Never touched them. The car didnt sound too bad at idle. Was just loud and sounded like a turbo car idle. Which I dont really like. At high RPM, I thought I was Schumacher because the car sounded like an F1. Very very LOUD and awesome!!!! I had to take a good friends terminally ill little boy for a cruise one day, a few months ago, so I thought it would be best to put the stock mufflers back on, so I dont blow the little 6yr old guys ear drums out. :) He loved every minute of it.
Here is the related thread I made. Check it out, if you already havent. ;)

Almost any manual trans equipped engine without a muffler and cat will get a burst of flame on a upshift especially if you blip the throttle. I think the smoother the flow, ie; headers, short pipes as on a 348/355, helps also. The flame comes from the unburnt fuel that makes it into the exhaust on the upshift, and by the heat in the exhaust it ignites also cuases a cool pop sound kinda similar to an F1 car. Probably the more overlap you have in cam timing the more prononced this would be. I had a guy behind me one day in my 355C he followed me into a gas station, he was behind me in a late afternoon spirited run(you are able to see the flame better in lower light), came over to tell to me I was shootin' flames out of my tail pipes, thought I should know because he thought the car was going to blow up, hahaha. I assured him it was purely entertainment. It kinda goes like this: higher revs lets say 6000 rpm clutch-blip-upshift-pop(flame) and again clutch.... great sounds!! Regards, Vern
