    David,
Glad to hear the TR is going to stay in your stable. Good luck with the repairs.

    Best regards,

Good luck to you; hope it all works out in your favor.

My personal attitude about car repair (I'm a DIY nutcase) is that I'd rather rebuild a transmission than repair a dent. I'm looking forward to the days when I can turn my skills towards Ferraris. Getting a car like yours (bad gearbox or engine) would be ideal for me.

Do keep us posted on the green car's progress; it's the technical content here (on Fchat) that made it an easy decision for me to subscribe ;)

I would like to know more about what to look for, listen for, and feel for, when a TR transmission is on the way out. Rifledriver posted a couple of times on this, but my head is pretty thick and I'd like to know more. What sounds signal that destruction is taking place? Is it whining or clunking or both? Does a shaky shifter while driving indicate trouble? I think many of us would like to know. Should I just start another thread on this topic?

it's great that you're keeping the car. testarossas are great, i just drove mine into washington dc this morning, and despite the horrible state of the roads, the car was a joy to drive. i hope it works out for you.

I think the way you need to look at this, if you want to use a logical perspective (I know, I know), is that the money you've already put into it is sunk cost. You're not getting it back, no matter what you do.

If you could sell it for $25k, and save $25k by not rebuilding the transmission, then you should consider if there is another car you'd rather have for $50k. If you'd be looking at buying another TR, I'd guess that your car, with a known history and a newly rebuilt transmission, is probably the best choice.

If you want something else, then sell the car and buy whatever you want.

I second this request, I am a little unclear as what to look for as well.

I had the same thing happen to me 3months or so ago. I decided to put new tranny in my 512tr with F512M one piece differentials to make it stronger. Sorry to hear that you are going through this.

I had my trany syncros replaced and new diff/limited slip replaced at Francorchamps in Calif. They work on the trany's alot and even make new gears because certain years crumbled! I think about $9.5k.
