Skiing.... lil help

Breckenridge is good but the mountain has many trails that lead into beginner runs making it occasionally dicey. The town is also at 10,000 feet making altitude sickness much more prevalent. Nothing wrong with Breck but most people enjoy Vail and Beaver Creek more.

 

Go to Utah, most conveinent place to ski at. Airport is 35-40 minutes away from all resorts. I have been going there every year for 20 years, bought house in Deer Valley 15 years ago. Deer Valley is best place for family skiing but very expensive its comparable to Aspen. Park City is also good, bigger hill little more expert terrain, problem is you got to do alot traversing between slopes. On the otherside, you got Alta, Snow Bird, Brian head, Solitude and I think there is one more but I am forgetting the name. Anyways, Snowbird is for hard core skiers, they actually have heli skiing. Brian head I never been to. Solitude is nice but small. Alta is probably the best place to go for the money. Good food, good runs, not alot traversing and they have to most snow fall out of all other resorts. One thing is they all allow snowboarding, except for Deer Valley. Do know if that matters to you. As for restaurant, Park City has great restaurants, do know for the other resorts, but Park City has great night life. Hope this helps.

VP of Marketing for Breckenridge was on CNN this AM. She said they expect around a 30" base by this weekend.

Beaver Run is fine - tell him that Gerald Ford stayed at Beaver Creek and it is almost the same.

Personally, I'd fly into Aspen, rent skis and not worry about rock damage

Then again, Colorado isn't the only place to ski.
Have you thought about Canada, perhaps Sunshine, or Norquay in the Banff area?
Heck, the Canadian ski team practices year round at Whistler/Blackcomb and there is a mile of vertical.

I have to say that these are all good suggestions. Rock ski's will not be necessary. We have been getting piles of snow in the mountains on top of snowmaking. In fact i have been snowboarding in the backcountry since mid September. Last week it was waste deep in places along the pass. If you are on the actual ski resort there should be no problem. Also, i am hearing a lot of Copper and Breckenridge arguments. If you like a more flat mountain Breck is your place. Copper is good but not for any type of nightlife. Both of these resorts tend to be extremely crowded as well, especially during a holiday week. My suggestion would be Winter Park, Vail, Aspen, or Keystone. All of these places make it a little easier to get away from long lines at the lifts. Copper and Breck have longer lines because the ski runs tend to funnel down to the same few lifts.

Loveland, CO ....... 10,300 feet at the top. Drive from DIA, , stay in Idaho Springs.

 

Any suggestions on where to purchase / look at ski clothing online? I'm guessing jeans skiing is out as Breck is one of the coldest mts.
