308 power lock issue

Those locks are sensitive and easy to get fouled-up. There have been previous posts about adjusting the door locks, but have you tried locking the passenger door with the button from the inside, and then lock the driver’s door with the key from the outside? This is how I have been able to handle the intermittent problem on my 328.

It sounds as though the right door latch is not latching completely. They were lubed with white lithium grease at the factory which is a good 18th century lubricant. It has almost certainly turned to partially set epoxy. The springs in the latch/lock assy are very weak and cannot overcome the sticktion of the grease. If you just clean and relube with a good grease that may fix it.

 

Tell me more about the electric door locks. I have heard they have them, do they operate from the drivers outside door lock? Can they be connected to a remote/alarm?

Works only from drivers door, inside or outside.

You could but the lock motors are problematic and you would be better off buying a whole kit and taking the OE lock motors out.

There is also a Service Bulletin (80-16) pertaining to the "updated" door lock motors. These came into production at s/n 46771 for GTS/QV & s/n 46871 for GTB/QV. Although these new motors are certainly more powerful (as far as you know!) it is doubtful they can overcome the time tested effectiveness of the 18th century lubricant, as Rifledriver so eloquently stated.

 

What controls the door lock solinoids?
Are there switches in the outside door locks? and do they go bad?
Can anyone get the service bulletins

 

The drivers side is really only a travel sensor and a timer relay. As soon as it detects movement in the linkage it powers up the right side to move. That time relay goes bad and burns up the right motor.


I have them all.

 

That is exactly what I had to do with my previous 87 328 GTS, when the door locks started not locking properly.
