I know a guy who has over 130,000 miles on his 456. Me, I have only 64,000 miles on my sweet thing. What is your mileage on the V-12 your drive? 12 cylinders are fun
I have a 1997 456GT. 4500 miles on it. Bought it 2.5 months ago. Believe me the milage will not stay there
I have 9,200 on my '95 GT. I only had it for a couple of months though and I was traveling for a while. Saluti,
I just bought a 2004 575M with low mileage. Have been concerned about putting on lots of miles because of service/reliability and depreciation on resale. What if anything have you encounterd in the 54,000 miles? If it is an F1, how many clutches so far? How difficult is it to sell a "higher mileage" late model Ferrari? (I know I did not want anything with more than a few thousand miles on mine when I was looking).
575joe..My car is now worth ~100 bucks in the US Ferrari market. It's a decision you have to make..before I bought the car, I made the decision that I was going to enjoy the car and not worry about rain, door dings, or the number of miles. My 575 was 2.5 years old and 2800 miles when I bought it. The low miles worried me. At 10k it ate a left cam-drive roller bearing and at 15k the half-shafts needed to be replaced. (I have and will continue to have an extended warranty) There have been a few items in the gas-vapor re-circ. system that have been replaced. And most recently there was a problem with check engine light and rough idle, which turned out to be loose intake manifold bolts and a displaced intake gasket over #3 cylinder. As part of the evaluation, the valve covers were removed and the techs couldn't believe how clean the valves and cams looked. Leak down and compression checks were perfect. I have a stick shift and original clutch which is still in excellent condition. If I were given the choice of driving across country (which I have done several times) with a low miles '02 or my car, I would take the car that has been sorted out and maintained. I have had two cam belt changes in less than a year. IMHO, enjoy the car and drive it. Steve
Thanks Appreciate the input. I guess you can't have this much fun and expect it to be reliable like a Toyota! Did you mean to say that your car is now worthless in the US market, or that you could still get $100,000 for it? Can one keep buying the Ferrari warranty a year at a time? Joe
575joe..I have no idea what the car is worth..but I have no intention of selling it. The car has been reliable and the problems that I listed never stranded me. My Porsche 996tt has stranded me three times and my Boxster S blew an engine. I think people are nuts not to have a warranty on these cars. Ferrari ownership is expensive without any major problems and to me the $4.5k/year for a warranty is peace of mind against a $30-50k major drive-train or engine problem. BTW the F-car extended warranty is unlimited miles. The extended warranty program is confusing. There are 10 options listed for "The Power Service Contract". Basically it is 2 years full warranty, years 3-6 10 combinations of coverage and years 7-12 power-train coverage. So far FNA has not tried to screw me and potentially with the gasket problem they might have denied coverage. Steve
Many Ferrari dealers in North America don't honor the warranties if you did not happen to purchase the car from them. Not purchasing an extended warranty was the smartest thing I ever did with this car. Cgrats on having a loyal service dealer. They are rare in Florida.
575M-Nero..It's not been a problem. I have had service done at Boardwalk, Ferrrari of Washington, Wynn, Ferrari of Silicon Valley. The only problem is that unlike Porsche, there is no central Ferrari service record kept on the car. Steve
I LOVE high mileage stories for any vehicle.....even better for Maranello's Resurrecting an old thread.....I was thinking about all the miles @niftyfivefifty has been enjoying and it might be fun to have one thread to keep a roster on big or monster mile Maranello's A few other related threads: +) https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/any-higher-mileage-575s-out-there.222409/#post-138204921 +) https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/looking-at-a-high-mileage-550.427472/ @p1turbo I think has a '04 with at least 85k? @Montgomery Kersten Might be the overall winner in a few categories (and a SF Bay area guy as well).....he has been a value added commenter on BaT and I think he has owned his 550 since NEW and I think his mileage is over 140k AND he also owns multiple F-cars +) 115509 is a 1999 Grigio Titanio over carbone I saw a month or so in the SF Bay Area that had over 60k. I can't remember if it was 63k or 68k but it looked great. +) 115139 is a 1999 TdF over navy blue previously owned by an F-chatter and sold on BaT 10/30/20 with 66,872 miles (Doug owned it for maybe 11 or 12 years) and I think his $/Mile was $1.94 and somewhere he noted it would have been much higher without all the help here from the forum. +) 117666 is a Rosso Corsa over beige also previously owned by an F-Chatter that was meticulously maintained by Ferrari Atlanta with 37,669 miles I only include this one here because the BaT auction was educational from all the maintenance invested on. Bryan spent more on Maintenance over his hold period than he bought the car for at the beginning of his also long term hold (I think he also owned it for 11 years and spent $7.64/mile on a gross basis and on a "normalized basis" his investment was $6.28/mile during his 11,222 mile hold). +) 129726 was that Nero/Nero 2002 with "historical deer damage" that sold on Ebay with 46k miles (carbon and race seats) If we have any other big mileage kings out there I'm always interested in hearing, learning, etc.
Still going strong.....another 1100 miles on twisty Arkansas roads at the Sept. 2020 Crescent Classic: Image Unavailable, Please Login
AWESOME Plus I bet that Valentine One has saved you from needing to have a few roadside discussions ;-) Stephen it might say in the threads but I’m feeling lazy to do the search....can you share if you bought your 575 new or if not what year and mileage (approx)?
Woah, this is an old thread newly revived! I would love to put max miles on my 550, which is currently just over 26k. But I own it jointly with a partner, so have to respect that dynamic. We're putting about 1k/year on it since our 2017 purchase. I try to drive it maybe every two weeks or so during our local "driving season," which runs from about mid-March through early Nov. This usually means taking it to a cars & coffee, or just a random 30 minute to 1 hour local drive, or a few times per year maybe a longer 1/2 day/100 mile route through some good rural twisty roads near where I live. Have 5 other cars, though, so need to divide available drive time between the different iron -- they all need to be driven, after all -- and there's only so much time available, unfortunately. Out of my modest collection, the 550 is my favorite and most special without question.
Gents, a fellow member suggested I post my high mileage Maranello experience: I bought it new here in Silicon Valley in 1999 . . . I have 140,000 miles on her and still am on the second clutch. I am on my 14th set of P-Zero tires. I have (sadly) crashed her twice, and found her remarkably resilient (bumper and undercarriage damage all repaired). I find the room in the cabin and trunk, and package tray, with spacious doors and the classic GT with V-12 up front, the ideal design still for Ferrari's flagship roadcars, which have always (to Enzo's mind) been what Ferrari is all about. I also have the original set of luggage offered, that fits perfectly in the capacious trunk and I use the smaller bags to travel internationally on planes (not during Pademic). I am rebuilding her now, as my sons will not learn a V-12 manual (other than my Diablo), since the future is F-1 trans, if not all electric! Happy Motoring! -- Montgomery in California (who also drives a 599, and 812, and my sweetie drives a Red from new California Ferrari with ADORE CA as the plate -- many times she has driven our three sons to school in it with the top down).
