well, just a few days removed from our world championship, my humble home town, home of a diecent number of f-cars, home of the ice cream cone, home of the 1904 olympics and world's fair, home of imo's pizza, home of the arch, etc.etc., my fair city has been named the most dangerous in america! i can vouch, for one, i go into the city and i have never, never, been the victim nor witnessed a crime. here's a link to the story:

Well, East St. Louis is just over the bridge, and that's gotta have an impact.

I didn't see anything bad either when I was down there last for their Mardi Gras celebration. The report was written by a Detroit resident I believe..

It all depends on how you skew the numbers. One huge variable is the population of St. Louis. Where did the researchers draw the line to measure both population and crime rates? I consider St. Louis to be a pretty large area, but the researchers may have drawn a tight circle around the inner city. I grew up north of the city and never felt like St. Louis was a dangerous place to visit, but I'm sure there are some people living in Compton or Detroit that would make the same arguments.

In my opinion, it's one survey. I don't put a great deal of stock in the information and it will quickly be forgotten as soon as something else hits the headlines. Besides, Missouri now has concealed carrying privileges to help discourage random acts of violence. ;)

I'm pretty sure Dayton is the only city out of the top 50 most dangerous with a population < 180,000

You're probably not going to the right neighborhoods. If you drive around rundown drug-riddled areas you will definitely find yourself a victim.Philadelphia just had its 344th murder and I live about 6 miles from the worst areas, yet I have never seen any crime either. But I know it's there.

I was walking around in a 'bad' part of Chicago about 12 years ago, but I never knew it. I got back to the Hotel about 1 am and was talking to the doorman, told him where i went, and he was aghast, said I was out of my mind.....

I was also driving around in a north part of KC about 15 years ago, at dusk, and was pulled over by a cop. He asked if I was lost, I said no, he proceeded to tell me I shouldn't be in that part of town and escorted me out of it...... and that's the only reason he pulled me over. Must have saw my out-of-state plates.....
