i have heard of someone cutting a service hatch on the firewall to access the belts through. But this would seriously devalue the car and possibly weaken it, also as was mentioned the fuel tank are right there below. full engine out belt change is the only real way!

No. It is a engine out on the TR, 348 , Mondial T and 355. Disclaimer.... I am sure someone somewhere has performed a major service on all these cars with the engine in the car and the job was was far cheaper and superior to the engine out way recommended by Ferrari

I can see where the job may be a bit easier in some cases, but not superior. There are many items on the TR that are better accessed with the engine out. I can't imagine changing out all the coolant hoses with the engine in the car. With a bit of effort you can pull a TR engine in one day at home with just hand tools and stuff, and do a better, more thorough job, than with the engine in the car. I have never personally seen any pictures or write ups on someone doing a service with the engine in the car. I have heard that story many times...but I'm skeptical of it. If someone out there has information on doing a TR service with the engine in the car, I would really like to know how it was done in detail. Anyone.....? Anyone......? That's what I thought...
