More Old Photos

I believe this is the back side of the same 268 SP previously posted. This photo was taken at Daytona in 1962.
Stirling Moss told me that he was originally slated to drive this car at Daytona that year but after one practice session declared the car "diabolical" and opted to drive the "Experimantele" instead.

David, this is #0796, a 246S of which you posted one photo before from the same event. BTW beautiful photo it is.

Believe it or not I spent considerable time trying to restore this one in Photoshop. I have several transparencies that are turning Cyan.
I believe the #26 is Allen Conell?

The photo definitely shows Sebring 1961, #16 is 250TR59/60 s/n 0770TR and the #26 is 246 Sport s/n 0778

I think it more likely that it is 1020 at Sebring with Revson and Swede Savage. Also DNF. I wonder if they couldn't fit a few more sponsor decals on the sides.

Re: the GTO 3387 in post #1664. The fuel filler is located in the rear window, is that an original placement or a mod? I know most have the filler in the space on the rear deck so this looks like a modification of sorts.

It's a mod. On it's debut at Sebring in 1962 the filler cap was in the usual place - where the round decal is shown in David's photo. (Probably put there to hide the original filler cap space?)

Chinetti was an advocate for running larger fuel tanks. This is documented in many of his cars. I suspect that for this race the original fuel tank was removed and a larger/taller tank was fitted in its' place thereby requiring reloaction of the filler neck.

As everyone knows, the co-driver was Glen "Fireball" Roberts of NASCAR fame. He sometimes drove Chinetti's cars in the Daytona races leading up to the Daytona 500.

Yes, the filler cap is in a different location from Sebring.

In the early 90's there was a three-part feature in "Auto Passion" by Alain Lacombe and Christian Moity, where this test-day fastback was presumed to be 5843.
