look cool...too much pipe...too heavy. Check out a challenge exhaust or just make one. It is just a H tube and a resonator pipe

Sweet! That's a great way to route in xpipe scavenging.

That being said, is there some material "out there" (I don't know, carbon fiber, Kevlar, asbestos, something) that could handle the exhaust heat/pressure while absorbing a lot of the noise? I mean, no metal at all, pipes made out of some hybrid fiber cloth or some such.

Metal exhausts seem like megaphones/bullhorns in channeling sound. Lots of tracks are clamping down on noise, and a few of us have Spiders that our 4 year old daughters want to ride around in while listening to Veggie Tales, but that shouldn't mean that some ricer should be able to dust us off of the line at any old stoplight.

Carbon will never handle the heat. Ive seen race bike rims(road cycling) deform on huge decents and braking hard from about 110km/h. Some rims just cant handle the heat.

    Maybe Ti? Or Boron?

How about 175mph on a bike??

PS watch for me on SpeedTV sometime before the end of the year. They will have a 1hr highlights show from the 8 hour endurance race we did a few weeks ago. Last 2 hours of it were in the dark

Have you ever seen any of the American exhausts from back in the 1960's/70's that had no muffler, but had dimples along the entire length of the metal pipes ala golfballs to cancel out noise?

AHHH, you must mean the good ol' American glasspack muffler made by Walker, also called a turbo tube. they are loud with a snap, krackle, pop...

    Hi,

I have a 348 with a Race "H" pipe setup (one resonator in the middle, almost mufflerless) w/ Cat bypass pipes.
Currently the car performs nice with such setup, but abit too loud for others liking.
I like to know would adding a Cat or Euro Resonator or Hyperflo Cat can reduce the sound and maintain performance?

I understand from some people that the Hi-Flo cats don't really dampen sound. Is that true?

Can you advise me on how to go around this problem when I like to keep the H pipe setup?
