Don;t lose sight that this is a forum not a Club, I think that's where some of the problems have arisen, take the VW meet yesterday, not formally organised, not even backed by Pistonheads but just a suggestion from one member to meet nad 350 cars inc 3 Enzo,s 3 Ford GT's etc turn up. I would leave it to take it's course rather than formalise it there are many regular events that pull us togehter anyway inc Auto Itala, Brooklands, FOC Concours, Trackdays etc add to that the ones that individuals organise eg Euro, Peaks and you'll find hte diary fairly full anyway

If you want to turn it into FCHAT Club to compete with the FOC then that's a different matter

 

i agree with Mark.IMHO, more benefit will be gained by co operating with other clubs/forums than trying to be biggest best[ Littlehavens rides spring to mind]

 

i don't think it'll make any difference where it's organised from. Most CS members still use this forum too. The important thing is to get as many cars for rides to support LHavens .

I'd be dissapointed if somebody decided not to support something just because it's posted somewhere else on the Internet, particularly a Charity event, I'd like to think that there is a new beginning for Fchat as another forum alongside CS, Pistonheads etc and any problems people may have had are forgotten

thats a tough call. The line between CS and Fchat would then be blurred, at the moment the two sites are very different and IMO need keeping that way.

different feel to the place TBH Mark, and I suppose I prefer CS because I know alot of the guys personally, which makes it easier to banter and chat with people, but this is ONLY because I go out of my way to go to events to meet up, its the single best thing I use my car for, the social side. Hud will say the same too I'm sure.

However I also understand that it is difficult for people to break into a clique, that is probably where Fchat scores higher coz there aint no apparent clique over here.

 

yeah the Hinckley meets were good, I will re-instate them in January I reckon. Thing is I will start them on CS, but do I extend the invite to FChat too??

 

yeah but wouldnt want to include PH. Went to a PH midlands meet...what a load of window lickers. They all looked like Jules but with even less personality....

On Littlehavens..... I think the polite route would be a CS post up for a week or so before here. Reason: although you played a major part in organising it this year, there would be a perception that "it's my ball, and I'm taking it over here"

Bruce has virtualy confirmed that next years event will be a joint FOC/CS fundraiser, and I'd imagine many on CS are delighted with this.

 

I'm with Mark's early point that we shouldn't try and formalise things too much. CS and FChat are forums, not clubs, and I hope they remain that way because as a means for organising "impromptu" events the web excels and formal clubs struggle. At the moment I am endeavouring within the Thames Valley area of the FOC to act as a conduit to those in our are who want to do the informal events but for one reason or not (mostly because they feel they haven't been able to or have not wanted to infiltrate the cliquiness and sometimes rough behaviour of the forums - not pointing any fingers I promise) dont go on the forums. This is much as Bruce has been doing with Littlehavens.

I am not saying it is easy but the web has changed the world and the way we communciate. but not everyone has come on board with that at the same speed.

It is often not easy for either side to understand the problems, strengths and weaknesses of the other side, and that can apply to different forums as well as to formalised clubs, but I don't see any reason why if handled tactfully that events by whomever originally instigated, can't be mentioned or discussed on any of the forums. The tactful bit is important though - as in all things in life.

As has been said - we all want the same thing - to enjoy Ferraris. I don't think anyone, on whatever forum or in whatever club disagrees with that. well if they don't, they really shouldn't be on here.

 

The Essex Region of PHeads have a monthly meeting nearby to me (actually its a tie up with the Essex Subaru Club).
I intend getting along to these next year, Kaptec on CS/fbloke on PHeads is nearly always there in his 355. Hussman, an occassional poster on here has said that he will take his 348 along next time I go. So I think that with a bit of a push a few more F's could be dragged out.

This is more a case of jumping on PHeads regional meetings than us organising our own meetings but I consider it early days. Once a decent number has been rounded up then it may be worth considering organising events but I am quite happy with these casual sort of arrangements.

 

why does there have to be a "decent number"???

Why cant three people who post on here from, say Birmingham area meet up, take some pics, have a beer and a chin wag and agree to do it all over again the following month?? From small beginnings and all that.....how can things possibly progress if we are "hi jacking" another forums meets. At least hi jack a CS meet, and then it will all be Fezzas, wont have to put up with those ghastly Noble drivers spouting on

 

Fair point.
I was thinking along the lines of regular monthly meetings. Unless there is a nucleus of 4 or 5 regulars these things can peter out.
Joining the PHeads meetings until that number is reached seemed a painfree way of establishing how many people were up for it.
