    Hello people

Probably you've never seen me as I am always in the 348/355 forum and the dutch area in the Europe forum.

After a few years of pleasure with my '93 348 I am looking for the possibility to buy my all-time dream car, a red 360 modena.
I would like to have some advise where to look after. I mean tough or weak spots what is really neccesary to know. They cost a fortune here and a lot of my savings will be used.

In the other forum I know who the die-hards are, the guys who know everything inside out, here not of course.

It would be a 2000 normal shifter Modena, no F1 transmission. I've driven a 04 360 spider F1 from my mate a few times so I know of the capabilities of the car. But he bought it new and owned it only 2 years

I know it will be asked several times here, but don't let me search. Am not a newbie. Thank you for your very kind attention regarding this matter.

Make sure the cam variators have been replaced. I do not know how it was handled there but here Ferrari paid for it. It is very important so get some kind of proof it was done.

Rifledriver, I know about your Ferrari knowlegde but though you were always in the TR/512 forum. Thanks for your input, didn't know that. I do know that it is much safer to buy a normal shifter instead of a F1. I do prefer a normal old shifter, it gives me more feeling with the car.

    Any more specific issues ?

There are several for the 99 and F1 cars but for 2000 the only specific tech issue that comes to mind is the variator campaign.

Other than that just the usual Ferrari stuff.

Try to get 6 speed , F1 is jerky and eat clutches fast.

Try to get one with the new updated clutch or you are looking in a minimum $5000 USD on your first clutch change (16,000 Miles APROX)

Make sure windows, doors and all the switches work properly.

make a good research that all the campaigns or recalls have been done.

Lack of research on the above can cause a nightmare experience and a lot of money.

Forget about year (except 99) and miles as long as the history and condition on the car is good. Basically nothing changed beetwen -00 and -04 so condition and miles is more important then year on a 360.

Take a look at the plates under the car, they are oftened damaged.

Also I would go with the F1 tran. In Europe it´s alot harder to sell the very few stick shifters that are around as far as I know. If you decide for the F1 tran make sure to check clutch wear. Very expensive to change clutch.

The 360´s I know about have been very reliable for being F-cars.

THanks for the input, I don't see any new reply's so this is probably the safest Ferrari to own ever built.

I will go with the normal shifter, I like the feeling to drive myself and I am planning a 5 year ownership so resale value is no issue.

To car I am looking at has done 15.812 miles and will be delivered with a new beltchange and a one year guarantee. It is from the 1st owner who'll get a 430 spider in febr. 07.

All recall matters have been done, like the vario cam thingy which was likely to break.

I am busy with the value for my car (1993 348tb) to trade in at them.
When I have the new car in my garage a dream comes true.

Here are some pics I took at the dealer yesterday.
The car hasn't been cleaned, it came in 3 days ago and will be done next week.

With over 40,000 miles driven in my 2001 360, I disagree that the F1 eat clutches fast. It depends on the driver and if the mechanic set up the car properly. Shifts are butter smooth after the car's warmed up.

Pretty color , make sure everything they say is well documented and given proff of it.

I am passing through a nightmare right now with the 360 because of not choosing the right one. I had to replace the clutch after 1000 miles with a cost over $6000 , changed the exhaust because just like yours the OEM is to quiet and restrictive and now the car is broke in Ferrari of san diego again (has been there two weeks already) and every time call It looks like new issues come.

Be very carefull on buying your new car if you want a pleasant ownership , there are hundreds of 360's on the market and a lot of them have seriuos issues.

    Good luck

Seems like a decent car indeed!
Hope you get a good deal on your perfect 348 (if anyone in europe is looking for a nice 348, this is the one, believe me!!!), so the 360 is soon in your garage :)

Wow... I feel very sorry for you !
I hope I am a bit more lucky. I am very careful as the cars are much more expensive here and I only wanted to buy at a real Ferrari dealer.
The car comes with a one year warranty. Haven't decided yet. Keep you posted. Thanks in advance for any more input !

As a recent purchaser of a 02 360 spider F-1, my biggest recommendation if you are concerned about service, reliability and maintenance is to get the car from a Ferrari Authorized Dealer.. You will pay more, but from what I found out, you cannot get the Ferrari warranty if you do not buy from an Authorized dealer.. Meaning that you will have "NO WARRANTY" unless you buy aftermarket.. and the aftermarket cover only the major items. Also if I had to do it all over again, I would try to get a great price on an '04 and extend the warranty out.. If my car goes down, I eat 100% of the bill. I hope it doesnt, but you sure can never tell. I've had low mileage cars, high mileage cars it doesn't matter. What matters is how the car was taken car of when the previous owner had it. How would you tell this? Only under careful inspection of the vehicle by an experienced mechanic. Under the untrained eye smooth paint and shiny seats hides the real element of surprise which is what is under the hood and inside the engine and tranny. Good Luck!

    Thank you pcglobal.
I will buy the car from an authorized dealer. They are the sole importer of Holland and have 2 companies with the same name in Germany.
I will get the car from Germany as there are more and cheaper offers.

In fact I have an appointment this afternoon to close the deal.

Make sure to do a PPI by an experinced F-car mech. Hook it up to the computer to get clutchwear and other warnings. Check all campaigns are done, make sure that yearly services, cam belts etc have been done and finally ask a F-car dealer to run a check if the car has been involved in any accident. If served at the same place, give them a call and ask about the car, they usually knows alot.

Also give previous owners a call. Most people has a genuine interest for cars and are very helpful.

If you do all this You will be as ok You can get imo. I did all that, knock wood.

I bought a car that needed some stuff done, cam belts, yearly service, tires, recond etc and it soon adds up to 10k $. But as long you know about it´s no big deal imo.

This is not specific for a 360 but for all F-cars.

Btw I love that colour =)

i had a 2004 360 spider for one year. the only annoying problem i had with it was the switch (on the left-hand side of the steering wheel) that you flipped to put the car in Sport mode would not keep the car in Sport mode. (CST switch, i believe is what it is called.) you would have to press it again, harder and harder, to try to get it to keep the car in Sport mode; otherwise, it would just continually drift out of Sport, which is where i liked to drive the car.

i imagine this is one reason why ferrari moved the switch to the steering wheel in the 430, which is what i have now. it works way better; more like the f1 cars, and i have really enjoyed the manetino switch being relocated. i drive the car in Sport mode in the city, and Race mode on the track. Race mode is awesome (lets you have fun, but keeps you out of trouble).

anyway, you may want to verify that this switch is working (holding) properly on your first drive, if not test drive.

enjoy, it is a fun car!
