its virtualy identical... I think the circuit is the same too... is the thump you hear the check valve? if so then seems you are not able to enerize the pump.... could be a ground.... I still say you have a cracked connector... or other wiring issue... as easy as it is to think of the large bad items that can go wrong... it rarely is... its usually the small stuff... my 308 had all kinds of mysterious wiring issues... but what do I know.

    best of luck!!!

Sorry about the confussion with the pump part numbers. When I went to the Autohaus website I plugged in the original Bosch part number you provided at the beggining of the thread. I believe the numbers are different because this pump is used on several other vehicles.

Let us know the results after you install the new pump & filter.

So the place I ordered the fuel pump from (performancedepot.com) just sent me an email saying they no longer stock that item. Nice of them to have it on their web site huh?

Spirot got me thinkin... maybe I should take the FP out first and see if it works on it's own - out of the car.

I have it out - and it looks just like the top photo above that 91tr posted. It is still on the plate and still attached to the accumulator. (BTW - if I tip the accumulator with the vent side down - fuel comes out the vent - is that ok?)

So my question is - how can I test the FP **safely** outside the car?

So I bought a fuel pump from Importec.com, thinking that E3000-117875 was an accurate cross reference for my Bosch Fuel Pump: 0 580 254 975. It is not. (I made this assumption because a search for 0 580 254 975 at importec.com brought up E3000-117875) It turns out that the fuel pump E3000-117875 is the same as Part #69609 that msouza found at autohausaz.

    For those who are interested:

    E3000-117875 = 69609 = 0 580 254 942

If anyone is looking for that pump, autohausaz has it for $100 cheaper than importec.com

I will be on the phone with Importec tomorrow trying to get this pump returned and see if I can get the right pump.

I also ordered a new fuel filter from T Rutlands on ebay the other day. It came as a "kit" along with a UFI oil filter and a UFI air filter. The oil filter and the air filter are the correct filters, but the fuel filter they sent me was the wrong one. They are sending me a replacement.

I am having all the luck...

Sorry to hear about the difficulty -- just hope that Bosch isn't now saying that the pump you received is the closest thing that they can still supply, and you need to change the fittings/lines :(

Let us know how it works out -- was importec able to supply the correct accumulator?

    Bite your tongue 91tr!

Maybe I should buy a few of these pumps so when others need them - I'll have them available.

I decided not to buy the accumulator because I needed a new fuel filter, air filter, and oil filter, and that was $110. The accumulator would be another $150 - and from what I've heard it would cause hot start issues, which I've never had. I'm supposed to be saving up for my 30k service next year. Ha!

I have decided to replace the 14+ inches of fuel line from the fuel tank to the fuel pump as well. It looks to be original, so I'm thinking that replacing it while I've got the tank drained might be a wise decision.

I'll keep ya posted on the outcome. One thing I hate about these forums is reading about others that have exactly the same problem, but have no "final" solution posted.

I called Importec back about the E3000-117875 that they had sent me - which was part number 69609. I spoke with Lee. A little digging turned up a few cross references for E3000-117875. So I explained - that I keyed in Bosch # 0 580 254 975 online and that E3000-117875 was the number that came up. When Lee looked up 0 580 254 975 on his computer he found 1 in stock - in another warehouse. It was sitting there since 2005. He thought it might be the older/correct model - rather than the new cross reference. He was right. I got it in yesterday and it was 0 580 254 975.

I put the new fuel pump in, along with the new fuel filter and tank-to-pump hose and she started right up.

The only thing I noticed this time - when looking for leaks - is the fuel accumulator was dripping from it's vent. I can only assume this isn't supposed to happen - so I'll be ordering another accumulator tomorrow - then I have to drain the tank again - drop the whole assembly.......

I should have just done it at the same time as the fuel pump. :(

Yep- a new accumulator is needed if it's dripping out of the vent.

You don't need to drain the tanks- just pinch that new hose with a clamp.
Since it's a new hose, you know it's got plenty of flexibility and won't crack.

    Good luck.

Well, at least you might be OK for another 20 years if you got the last one ;)

Seriously, I could see Bosch not replenishing the supply of that early CIS FP design, and future repairs needing the plumbing changes to switch over to the later style. IIRC, a couple of years ago someone was looking to replace the stock hard line from that pump to the accumulator and was having difficulty.
