I went and saw it on Sunday, well worth seeing. Also worth checking out a few other clips which are on youtube / google video from his TV series.

Just waiting for Thursday now (Casino Royal). :)

I saw it. Was very funny but I was squirming in my seat a lot. Did you know the woman who was responsible for booking him onto that regional news show (the one where he was speaking to the weatherman) was sacked and is now depressed and in crippling spiraling debt? Maybe she'll do more research next time!

    Very funny film.

Agreed with the squirming but my cynical head reckons her next step will be a huge damage claim against the film makers

I would like to raise a doubt about Sacha Baron-Cohen's appropriation of other ethnic groups and nationalities. I think it's disturbing.

I have seen Sacha's Ali G film and it is funny, yes, although it did trigger these doubts. I shall see 'Borat' too, on the grounds that any prejudging needs to be justified, at least in my own mind.

Racial stereotyping is no longer acceptable in some areas. Some of you may remember the BBC's 'Black and White Minstrel Show', immensely successful barely a generation ago and now unthinkable.

Why is it acceptable to make use of a small nation like Kazakstan? Are they funny foreigners? Would Sacha make of his character an Irishman... or is this now unacceptable... which I think it is.

I have heard that his next project is a film about another alter ego, his gay Austrian. Again, uneasy targets.

What a pity that such a comic needs to saddle his talent with stereotypes. At least Woody Allen avoids them.

    Anyone share my views?

I do see where you are coming from.

Personally, If he did the same and based it on Scottish or even Glaswegian people, I would find it even funnier.

Its just the world we live in, without people like him, it would be a very dull place.

No. I'm off to watch it tonight so can't comment on the film itself. But if its anything like the TV show then the butt of the jokes are the dumb people who believe his absurd stereotypes not the Kasakstanis themselves.

I see where your coming from as well. But i think it has to be taken light-heartedly. Khaskstan said that they where happy he made the film, because most people didnt even know of the country or where it was.

And also i think why its popular is that eveything now is 'poltically correct', and to see something that is far from that, makes people laugh.

    Casino Royal tonight! :)

Nor me. Highlighting the fact that he main character is from Kazakstan (spelling?) and possibly an unfair racial stereotype, and refering to the size of the place.... misses the point that it's the Good Ole U S of A who are made to look stupid!!!! And they are the largest and most powerful nation on the planet.

Even the "Running of the Jews" scene may be deemed acceptable as Sacha is Jewish himself? Only read reports on it... will see next week.

I went to see it last week and I have to say I haven't laughed so hard for a very long time. I know that some people consider it to be offensive and unacceptable in these PC modern times, and I can see why, but without things like this the world would be a very boring place. People need to lighten up a bit and stop taking everything so seriously. Incidentally, I heard that the boys in the film who break the news to Borat that Pammy featured in a 'video' (the ones in the RV) are now suing the film makers. Not sure on what grounds, but does anyone know if this is true?

Saw it last sunday and thought it was funny but thought the bit in the SUN newspaper was funnier where all the 'stars' are thinking of suing especially the bloke who lost his forearm in the war in Kasakstan and Borat replaced it with a gay sex toy. I know I shouldnt laugh but that made me cry with laughter
