Ok, I'd like to gather up as much information as possible as to where the 25 US cars are. Very soon, Joe and I will be planning a get together for all the SE 30's. Also, post your pictures and info. I will be uploading pics of mine as well as dino sheets from before and after modifications. And last, weigh your car!!! We want to find out where they all come in at.

Sad is right. I'm all for modifications, but the engine cover looks foolish.

Bone stock, mine dyno'd out at 490 hp. As usual with Lambo's the factory claim of 525 is a little on the opptomistic side. Greg and Steve up at Driven are working on it now and we're going to put it back on the dyno and see how it does after they're done. I will also have a weight by then.

I took it to an elementary school one time, to pick up one of my children. Some kid ran up to the car, got down on all four, and started to pray for the opportunity to have a car like that (I asked my son the next day, what the kid was doing who had bowed down). lol

hmmmm. I am pretty sure that a Murci LP640 can burn an SE30 into the ashes!!! Most stupid on this videoas are the comments of the folks who saw it:

the usual stuff: "awesome" "...greatest video ever (sic.! What is great about a Diabolo sittin`in a traffic jam like the comon FORD???)..", "WHOWW!" etc., etc...! Jesus, some people can be easily satisfied.....!

Funny that the young bloke who made the video called the chap behind the wheel "...a very good driver!". Whats good driving a car in normal traffic and having sometimes problems to find the right gear as some strange noises can be heared when he shifted....? OK, the co-driver is young boy and will do better in some years (hopefully!)

    Ciao!

You have no idea what you are talking about. It comes down to basic power to wieight issues. The LP 640 is a pig, at over 4000 lbs. We will see what my SE 30 dynos at after a couple of simple modicfications abd then we will weigh it as well. I have been on 2 Gumball's and 3 Bullruns, we have had most every type of exotic on the runs and have been in all types of situations, track, highway, etc. Let me tell you, fat pigs don't work. My Stadale was 12 seconds, yes 12 whole seconds faster around Sebring than the closest Murcie. And yes, I drove the Murcie's as well. No comparioson. Like it or not, pure numbers don't fly in the real world. There is a reason why race cars are light, because it makes for a better, more dynamic and faster car. Unless you own or have driven these cars, don't pop off.

Darling, I drove so many race cars on streets & circuits you can only dream about over there in CA with your very nice little speed-limitations. Of course you are right that a race car has to be light and nimble as only this gives an active response.

But are you sure the SE30 is a race car?????? Also, you talk about some "...simple modifications...."! OK, do them with with the Murcielago as well and ........whoopey!

The SE30 is clearly going with understeer in corners and change after the apex to oversteer. This cost time vs against a car -like the LP640- that has 4WD and is very neutral in the same situation due to its better weight balance.

Give your SE30 to a very (!!) good driver around the circuit and then give the same man the LP640 and he will be faster on the same track. Perhaps the driving with the SE30 brings for fun, yes, this I have to admit!

    Meet me on the ol`Nuerburgring...............!

    CIao!

    Walter,

I have to (in the most friendly way) disagree !! SInce the fastest lines are usually driven at point past the limit of adhesion, many times in a four wheel drift, that understeer and oversteer can be quite useful. The SE30 is certainly powerful (I understand 575 hp with the right exhaust and proper setup), the magic in that car comes from is enormous weight savings, 2 wheel drive, and a long list of little hidden tweeks from Lamborghini (read up about the gear cuts unique to the SE30). With the cockpit adjustable rear sway bar, you can transition the car from understeer to nuetral to oversteer on the fly.

On the topic of all-wheel-drive, while this is for sure a boon to the average driver on public roads and rally drivers, it has been decidedly left behind in the pavement racing world. It is much more difficult to control the pitch angle of the car about its vertical axis and the front contact patches are kinetically overcommited.

Walter - what do you think? I say this from an amateur standpoint, I have done track work and autocross work, but I don't have a ton of track time.... correct me as applicable.

At the end of the day, since Lamborghinis are road vehicles, what I care most about is how much fun are they to drive on roads I can access....I'll save the track for a car truly set up for it.

    Ciao !!

    Steve

    Keith,

    Still interested in your mods...?

When I had it...it was stock...except for Cat delete, exhaust and some K&Ns.

Being a power freak myself....I am interested in what you have done...?

    ...JOTA convert perhaps?

    Steve,
drifting costs times - as spectacular it looks! The weak point with all Diabolo (exeption: 6.0-Liter) IMO is the wheelbase between the front tyres. This is too small. This was the reason why this was changed with the 6.0-version after AUDI hopped behind the wheel.

But you are right about the weight problem the Murcielago has. Its a fat cat, yes! But the chassis of the modern car is so much ahead off the SE30 and any other Diabolo. I once drove a SV and was not very impressed due to its lack of chassis quality under hard cornering (you can ask any race driver who drove the Diabolo in this curious Lamborghini-Cup and they all will confirm this fault!). The rear axle acts different due to its wheelbase to the front axle. The 6.0 was for me the ultimate Diabolo-version. The vertical axle of any physical object is influenced to its size - and all Diabolos are big, as the Murcies are! I drove one recently and was surprised how good the car is on a circuit. I didn`t drive the new LP 640 yet, but I expect it even better!

Btw., a track test of the Murcielago on the old Nuerburgring burned almost everything down to the ground until the Porsche GT came up beating the Lambo. The circuit there is quite bumpy and this is something the Diabolo-chassis doesn`t like, also tight corners are not on the agenda of that type.

I am in Germany only 80 miles away from this greatest circuit of all!

    Ciao!

    Walter,
One of the things we are changing are the rear springs. The car really wants to come around and the factory has the car sprung very tight in the rear while not compensating for the weight loss. Greg and Steve at Driven are alos altering the toe in and camber. These cars wern't set up real well from the factory. I'm also going with Mich pilot Sport cup tires. they should give more grip as well.

Brian, as to the rest of the mods. The exhaust is straight out the back, SVR style. The throttle bodies are being bored out and a modified vacume pump. Also with the suspencion mods I'm lowering it as well. Oh, and carbon fibre front and rear bumpers. So we will see, it will be dyno"d and weighed after.

Then I'm setting up a 1 day drive here in Southern Cal of about 150 miles so(sort of a mini Bullrun) we'll get some good ideas of how it does on the road and with other cars.

how can you guys blame a driver who enjoys fresh air in his car
and avoids overheating by removing it's engine cover too

Sounds like a smart guy to me

Removing the cats will solve any heating issues of the motor.

The engine cover of the SE30 is very 'airy' and allows the engine to cool well while providing a wonderful appearance.

As for fresh air in the car, taking the entire window out is odd, to me at least. I had the factory install functional windows in my SE30, I do appreciate fresh air in the cabin and the opera of the motor too.

The way #27 is pictured above looks like it's a theft recovery more than the result of an intentional act. That's the sad part.
