Your 599 looks great - that pic is a really neat angle on the 599. When the first pics were revealed, I wasn't too keen on the styling but it has since grown on me. I also used to think that the 599 looked better in the dark metallic colours, but now the stronger colours like rosso and giallo appeal to me more.

 

Possibly, though the DBS is a huge step on from the Vanquish S - it'll be interesting to find out if it has been such a big step on as the 599 is over the 575. I hope the Aston does well though - it's just sooooo desirable, though I don't expect it could ever be better than the 599....

your comments are basically grounded in your opinions that these new f-cars are 'ugly'? fair enough, it's a matter of taste. but, i don't see how that ties into your idea that they are below par products. each of those cars you mention are at the top of their respective classes when it comes to their abilities. styling tastes are subjective, but objectively, you couldn't say they are sub-par machines. so, people have flocked to buying them simply because of the 'badge'? i disagree that all these people won't care what Ferrari builds, and will purchase regardless if it's 'good' or not. saying so would underestimate the logic and intelligence of many. granted, logic doesn't enter the equation for a good number of buyers, but to say 'all that can afford to buy an f-car don't really care about substance' is quite presumptous.

 

Agree. I wasn't crazy about the 612 until I drove an HGTC on the track. Whether you like the appearance or not is a matter of taste, but there is no denying that it is an amazing machine

I wonder from your post, if you have ever seen, in the metal from close up, a 599GTB? To call it underwhelming is to say Angelina Jolie is ordinary.

The car is a beautifully conceived evolution of the cars that came before it and it has the most marvelous air management design seen on a production car ever. That a car of that size can slice through the air and stay stable at ridiculous rates of acceleration, all the way to over 200MPH, without any huge wings or devices protruding from the bodywork, is a technological marvel.
Besides that, the build quality of the 599 (and the Superamerica and 575M before it) are as good any manufacturer can do. The quality of the interior is quite the best I have seen and I have the best on offer from Bentley, Mercedes, Porsche and BMW in my stable.

The shape of the car is uniquely Ferrari and its heritage can be easily traced through the front engined V12's that came before it. It is a real car, usable in daily driving and makes no compromises in its performance.

I really can't understand where the "underwhelming" part is. But it is your opinion and as as such uniquely yours. You are welcome to it. I must say however that it must be difficult to go through life with any joy if you find any of the modern Ferraris to be so distasteful. I wonder what makes you feel good?

 

I disagree about the guys view on the Ferrari styling and modeling, i think they are what they are, Ferrari's - Excellent! Although thats not to say i dont like other cars, i quite like most supercars (Gallardo Spyder, LP640, Zonda F etc..), and thats not to say that i like all Ferrari's, some Im not too fond of (612, P4/5), but i respect each car for what it is, not just because of its branding.

As for someones comment as to why the GT3 was in the test, was because the cars where mostly chosen by readers on the the website, you could vote for what you would like to see, it wasnt about cars with similar performance.

 

I'm amazed you're not fond of the P4/5 as I think it is incredible - however as you suggest, it's all about personal preference - and respect for the engineering achievement involved in producing such a car.

The GT3 was there as Evo rated it as one of the best performance cars of the year - it was Evo Car of the Year. The vote on the website is for the test in their next issue - to celebrate their 100th issue.

The lines of the P4/5 just dont appeal to me, looks similar to a Group C car. But as i said, i still respect the car, and wouldnt say anything bad about it.

Just personal preference as you said, same things with what people think with colours. I prefer Rosso Corsa to Scuderia, but theres some people who dont like Corsa, but like Scuderia, and its just a different shade of Red.

 

I wanna see them compare the 599 against the SLR, DBS, and 997 Turbo...

 

I'd love to see a direct 599 v SLR review, 2 very similar cars that serve very much the same purpose.

Asked my friend who saw it live on a Florida showroom, he said it was amazing and has to be seen!

 

from what auto journo's have been saying so far, the 599 is quite diff from the SLR. MUCH better brakes, more neutral handling, more 'vivid', but yeah, i'd love to see a 'back to back' comparo to really discern the differences/similarities, etc. no doubt, the SLR, especially in its 722 guise, is quite a rocket. i just wished MaC/Merc used a big natural breathing V-12 in it instead of a forced induction engine. still an awesome GT though.

 

The best V8 (and I don't think the SLR's V8 is close to the best V8) will never be the match of an Enzo derived V12

 

agreed! car of that level needs a big 12...though the 599's 12 doesn't use the Enzo's exact internals, it is something special, and capable of even mightier power should the owner really want to push it. the leap from Enzo to FXX, and MC12 to Corsa gives glimpses as to what is possible with that engine--without forced induction to lose its purity. btw, is your carrera gt seal grey or silver? there was a question as to whether it was your car or not on one of the 'showroom' threads

 

Actually, 410, Angelina Jolie is pretty but she's nowhere near as beautiful as the 599.

She simply seems more beautiful because of the spotlight. She reminds me of several New England girls with whom I went to college. Those juicy lips are more like the hotties at Howard, in DC.

There is no question that the 599 will be/is a sensational car to drive. I have not just seen one but, sat in one and thoroughly "perused" it. Call me a poseur but ***stylistically*** it just does not add up £210,000 worth of car. (~$400,000).
I was a child (literally) in the 80's - I grew up lusting after Testarossa's and Lamborghini Countach's. Now (whilst still in my mid 20's) in a position to actually BUY a Ferrari they're styling simply does not live up to the pre-conceived notion of visual DRAMA that I have grown up dreaming about. And I CANNOT get over it. I'm also struggling with the change in their corporate attitude (Ferrari barbies, Ferrari underpants etc) and the proliferation of their products (I live in London and can tell you that a Ferrari really is no longer an exclusive car here - it's a taxi for the International rich).

When I dreamed about Ferraris they made low-slung, belligerent, mid-engined SUPERCARS with drama and WOW factor with the performance to match. It was a conoisseurs car that demanded compromise.
THEY BUILT A YOUNG MANS CAR ONLY OLD MEN COULD AFFORD (something Enzo himself said).
Now I can buy one, they're building anonymous-styled, GTs (albeit with even better dynamics/performance) with an emphasis on ergonomics and easy of entry/exit etc etc.
AN OLD MANS CAR THAT RICH OLD MEN WILL LOVE.

The 599 is NOT Angelina Jolie - she's instantly, outrageously and OBVIOUSLY beautiful.
NO Angelina Jolie is the F40.

My preference for beautifully conceived drama without excess (latter rules out Lamborghini): Porsche Carrera GT. This is a modern day F40, but as you can see from residuals, it's way too demanding for your typical wealthy 45+ male. (they should have built 300).

 

Not everyone likes Angelina Jolie,she looks vulgar and skanky.

FYI I wasn't the first to bring her up - 410 SA did. Regardless, I think she's stunning..............and more relevantly the 599 is not.

 

Your opinion is just a very personal view, like that of the rest of us. In essence it has no basis in fact, and thus cannot be judged to be objective in any way. Many of us love the 599 and find it truly beautiful, something I would not say about the Testarossa, the Enzo, the 612, and many others. But that is my view and also not based on objective reasoning. It's called personal preference and I would say that your views on this have been thoroughly explored and I suggest they be left at that. It's getting pretty old. Lets move on!

I also meant to add that you are right about your feelings if "extreme" styling is your cup of tea. The 599 is by no means extreme but it is "right" and "innovative", things which are far more desirable, in my opinion.
