Ferraris are made to drive! First 2-3 months I didn't want to drive in the rain, always worried that it would get wet and dirty haha

I couldn't care less anymore now, it's wet and dirty in the garage at the moment....just returned from a 2 hr drive in the rain Waste of money if you dont drive your cars (in my opinion).

I'm looking down the road to buying one in a couple years (I'm looking for a black TS, with red as a second choice). I'm not financially or spacially (i.e. garage spaces) ready right now but if I were, I think your price is quite reasonable. I also think that Fchatters are not going to stress about a "higher" mileage example that was maintained and driven by an enthusiast.

(My problem with getting a 348 has to do with I won't sell the 308 and we already have two freakin' money pit Fcars!)

That's because they don't know any better. When will the world understand that low miles means less car for more money? (not to mention low miles VERY often really means sending unit "malfunctions"). I suppose it's their money but unless you are a concours junky - why bother?

People ask me from time to time about 308's and I always ask them back, "Do you want to drive it or have it take up space?"
If they want a driver I always recommend the 65,000 mile car with a stack of oil change and belt change receipts and a door ding for $29,000. A door ding is actually a good thing. If you have one or two it means you won't totally freak and burn a hole in your stomach everytime you leave it in a parking lot. 65,000 miles means you won't mind actually driving it to that parking lot. $29,000 is just like someone just paid you $13,000 to actually drive the thing (how many more miles would you want to put on one with 11,000 showing?) Where is the downside?

Run, don't walk from that pretty 85 model with 11,000 miles on the clock for $42,000. Those are only good for towing and showing.

 

Good advice!! The cars with normal driving miles on them are a great deal!! Most problems are sorted by then too.

 

Well I bought a 15000 mile car with great service history. I am planning to put 15000 miles on it in the next 5 years. No towing and showing for me. I have achieved 1700 miles so far in 2 weeks. I even took it out in 30F weather today. The main reason I wanted to buy a lowish miles car was that it wont be too difficult to offload when it comes time to sell it.

If the price correctly reflects the miles - someone was throwing around numbers of $0.20/mile - a properly priced high mile 348 should be a fantastic car!

 

You are doing it right, if you DON'T mind the higher price up front. My soapbox on low milage cars isn't that they are bad cars. It's just that many times they will hold you prisoner, especially if you bought it to drive.

 

I could not agree more. Those low milalge folks are like my old Aunts who never enjoyed their money but for the sake of having it.

34K in a little over 2 years in a full Challenge car, race set up including pipes, no air conditioner. Try driving that to Atlanta for a 600 mile round trip at 100F in the summer, or to Indy-1,700 round trip. Memories. People often talk about cost of ownership. It has cost me over $1 per mile not counting fuel and misc. items-well worth it. To me the real cost is the regret of not doing something. When I am in the nursing home droolling on myself, I will be in the cockpit, thinking of Indy. See you at Watkins Glen in O7.

Au contraire, mon ami. While I don't follow the garage queen thing, I don't relish running up a bunch of hard miles on the car either. I like her to look nice and stay youthful. I'm not out to run her hard even if I don't put her away wet. I look to rotating cars every few years, so I am careful to gauge what the next buyer might want. Since most people want a decent, well sorted and clean lower mileage (notice not low, but comparatively lower than the competition when u sell) car, that's my goal during ownership while trying to wring out as many thrills as I can!

Drive it, but don't abuse or ignore it. It's not a Chevy (or a Porsche) ferkrissakes! Leave it nice for the next guy because that guy just might be me! Hey, u 360 guys listening?!

 

I've really never understood floor mats. Why do I save the carpet under the floor mats? It's gonna look like new when everything else is rotted away. Why don't I let the next guy buy floor mats to hide the hole I wore in the carpet? If every owner puts down floor mats, then no owner ever gets to enjoy the carpet! Arrrrrgh! Am I insane?

What constitutes abuse? If I roll out, run it to the red line, match revs on gearshift, etc thru 5 gears, then lay on the brakes, is that abuse? I'm sure lack of maintenance is abuse, but I'm not so sure putting the car thru its paces within the factory specified limits is abuse.

 

There are those who think a ferrari is mainly a coversation piece.....

I drive mine, upgrade it, repair it and maintain it!! I have yet to buy a car that was maintained to the level that I would have done . They always leave me in better shape than when I bought them. I say live a little!

 

Per my mechanics and 2 high-line sports car salesman:

1. Red lining every shift.
2. Slamming the car into gear on every shift aka speedshifting.
3. Ignoring annual fluid replacements.
4. Deferring scheduled maintenance.
5. Driving every driving school that comes around like you're Schumacher.
6. Not warming up the car before a drive.
7. Not letting a car cool down after a drive.
8. Not driving the car at least 20 minutes every 2 weeks or;
9. Not storing the car properly during winter.

Or basically treating your exotic like a disposable Japanese commuter car.

 

I don't know of anyone who subscribes to that form f-car ownership.

Anyway I heard somewhere that "titanium rods" only last 50k miles. Is there any truth to that???
