    My story:

Grew up outside of Oakland, California. Loved it there. I'd move back there in a heartbeat, if I could ever afford it.

Family moved just outside of Sacramento towards Auburn 7 years ago because of my father's job. Not a move we wanted to make, but we had to.

After high school, I went to ASU in Tempe, AZ. I chose ASU because I was going to be living with my brother, liked the "scene" of ASU (read as: the girls). After 2 years, I began to decay very badly. Began forming eating disorders, schooling went down, my life was a wreck.

Now I'm in my senior year at ASU, no problems, doing better than ever. I might even get a 4.0GPA this semester. I graduate next May!

After I graduate, I have the opportunity to continue to live in my parent's vacation condo in Arizona. I want to move to the San Diego, CA area. My girlfriend is there, we are going to get married when the time is right, and I love the area. It's either southern California (maybe even LA), Northern California (bay area, not Sacramento), or Arizona. Arizona is a last resort if I can only get a job here. I can't stand Arizona anymore and want out.

    That's my story.

Currently living in a suburb of Houston in Texas. I was living in N. California for a couple years before. I got fed up of commuting to Houston on work and decided to stay on.

Houston is a pretty big city on a global scale of things - very low cost of housing, no state income taxes, good airport, OK restaurants, great Ferrari club members, friendly folks. The negatives are: Its hot and humid most of the year, the city is dull architecturally, there is nothing really that awe-inspiring to show out-of-town guests, no mountains nearby, dirty beaches.

All in all Houston allowed me to save enough money to be able to buy a Ferrari and a house which I doubt I could have managed if I was back in California.

But if the big ticket lottery clicks in, I would head to the Bay Area - there is so much to do there.

I was born in Atlanta, GA but I'm currently residing here in Illinois just because dad's job is here and this is where all family members live. I enjoy the snow but not this cold.

I have gone from London (age 0-3) to San Diego(age 3-6) to Miami (6-8) to Seattle(age 8-19) to London(19-20) and now back in seattle. I loved london but its changed soo much and its really loosing its "englishness" because of all the forgieners coming into england, and while I was there I missed the west coast like mad. Seattle and the west coast in generally is an amazing part of the world and is so diverse. Being in seattle lets me sail around the sound in the morning and then go boarding in the afternoon. Not meny places let you do that.

I was born and raised in Pacific Beach in San Diego, CA. I live in a little town in Washington state now because I am in the US Coast Guard. If I wasn't in, I would definitely be living in the city again (By which I mean in one of the outlying communities that make up a 'city') - either Seattle, San Fran, or San Diego. Opportunities are just so much greater despite the hassles that come from being immersed in civilization.

If I decide to get out of the Coast Guard I will either move to Seattle or move back to San Diego. I think everyone who grows up in a major city feels a deep sense of pride for their city and fear that it is changing out of their control (which nobody really has). Every city has a large group of natives but a larger group of people that move there from somewhere else. These people are probably the majority, so the natives are worried that they are being overrun by 'outsiders' (gasp!). However, the inbound people have children, who become natives, and the cycle continues. The proportions always stay the same, I think. :)

I grew up with a completely skewed perspective on the costs of living, because I lived in a comfortable home in a happy neighborhood in a beautiful city. It wasn't until I grew up and moved away that I realized I had a LONG way to go to be able to move back into the same area and be able to support myself. I have a huge and newfound respect for everyone that lives in my old neighborhood.

Living 35 minutes from L.A. (Weekend traffic) I think you really summed it up really well! It's kind of wierd going to a nice club and then be scared to get mugged at the gas station down the street.

That's why I plan to go to school in Orange County. Cal State Fullerton to be exact. It's somehwere I can see myself living, well after i'm done with school. There are many areas in Orange County i'll live, Fullerton, Brea, Irvine, and the many beach Cities. You're never too far from anything. 1 1/2 hours to snowboard (4 hours if you want to go to a nicer mountain), less than an hour to L.A., 4 hours from Vegas, 2-4 hours away from race tracks if you like to road race, and a quick drive to the beach.

And You don't have the vast areas of crime like you see around L.A.

I LOVE Calgary, can't really imagine living anywhere else. The city is a great place, I've never been scared or worried while walking around on my own and it has been really good to my family.

I love being an hour's drive from the mountains and once you get outside the city, you would never know that 1 million people live here.

I'm lucky enough to be halfway through a Petroleum Engineering degree from the University of Alberta (would NEVER, EVER live in Edmonton) and the way things are right now in the oil and gas industry things are looking good for a future in Calgary. I can't wait to graduate!!

I dig it.. 20 minutes outside of L.A., no crime and (aside from some commuters) everyone is pretty much on the same page. There's plenty of open space for hiking, walking, biking, etc.. and Malibu is ten minutes away when I feel like seeing the ocean.

The downside is that it's friggin expensive.

Grew up in France (Paris, Toulouse, Aix-en-Provence, Montpellier), Italy (Turin, Bologna), US (Chicago) and Canada (Montreal).

Now living in Montreal. I live here because that's where my parents ended and where I studied and got a job (since august). Been here 7 years, that's enough.

I'd move to the west coast (SF to be more precise!), but I'm pretty sure I'll miss the easygoing side of Canada, as well as the affordable living. Who cares, I'm due for a change, routine is what kills me.

I grew up in South Florida and lived in Palm Beach county just before graduating high school. College in Miami was too congested (outside of the campus) so I moved back to Palm Beach after graduating. Plus my wife has family here. Now the kids all have friends here and my brother moved back to the area. Personally I would prefer to be in the mountains near Asheville, NC, but I will probably jsut get a smaller place there as a second home.

Grew up in Feldkirch/Austria ..literally a medivel town..went to school there and still have family and friends there. since Feldkirch is right on the Swiss and Lichtenstein border (like a mile) we worked in Switzerland, my wife..( at the time girlfriend0 in a trust corporation and I in a Swiss Company as Product Manager for semiconductor equipment. One cold winter day the GM had this fabulous idea for me to move to the bay area. ME? I never even considered to move away from the area...anyhow..long story short , after I finalized everything...you know...selling cars, bikes etc they had issue with getting me a work permit for the US..WTF? went out and started with an Austrian company. Located to the US (Charlotte, NC) in 99. My wife HATED it for the first year..Now she works for a very, VERY upscale Art gallery and loves it here. At that point we on't really consider moving anywhere. The weather is great and if we really want some snow we fly home for a couple of days..Long story short..Charlotte is a great place to live.....after you got used to it :)

Agreed! I was born in Edmonton and have lived in Calgary all my damn life (still young, 23 yrs old) and I can't wait to get the hell out after my schooling is completed. The only thing that might keep me here is working in the Oil Business which I am right now. I'd love to live in Vancouver and probably will in 2-3 years time, and then travel down the coast and settle down in Southern California (with Eva Longoria).
