just had a whole rant typed out but it sucked so i deleted it.

basically, been nocturnal my whole life, same with dad, problem is with a full-time dayjob and full-time girlfriend it's hard to make ends meet in the sleep bank. 80% of the time i'm physically unable to sleep until almost daybreak, which means i don't get to the office until nearly noon if i manage 4-5 hrs sleep, and getting home after 9pm every night wouldn't do wonders for the social life so i try to start earlier, which only leads to chronic fatigue in the middle of the day.

it's just a rant, (again) mostly because it's 5:40am here and i've been trying to sleep since midnight as i need all day to get some stuff achieved, after 2 hrs sleep yesterday and 3 hrs the day before etc etc you'd think it wouldn't be so difficult.... just so frustrating sometimes. nobody who doesn't have it "gets it", they all have some lame remedy which supposedly 'cures' a condition they've never even had.

well, sun is on it's way up, sky is pink and birds are tweeting, i feel my eyelids finally becoming weary. guess it's time to attempt unconsciousness for another couple hours.....

i know exactly what you mean. when i was punching the clock 7am~6pm i was the walking dead. by 9pm i was wide awake until sunrise, drove me nuts until i found out i was and am an insomniac. for me quiting the rigid daylight hours of work and running my own buisness helped ALOT. i can work when i want and for how long i want. sure the deadline is still there for the most part but i don't have to punch the clock anymore.

i tried the meds, worse than the problem. i'd crash and not wake up until it wore off could be 10~12hrs then i was groggy and cranky. not to mention the boss doesn't like midday workers.

so for now i work a few hrs during the day and few at night, round the clock more or less. i also found that some kind of stimulating exersice ir work help'd too. so i spend at least an hour or more per day lifting weights. funny how the human body wasn't designed to sit in a cube all day, i'd rather blow my brains out then ever go back to that living hell!

    okay off to the gym...

Ah, memories of waking up at the crack of noon.

I used to tell my Kindergarten Teacher one-liners from the Tonight Show. When I was in high school, I could never get to sleep before 3 AM. By senior year, at least 7 of 10 school days, I'd come sauntering in during first break, after 1st and 2nd period.

Teachers of said classes hated me, because I'd show up on test days & get best score - one time I nailed one equation after another on a shall we say, rather hastily arranged (read: as soon as I walked in) Pop Quiz at the chalkboard like I was Damien in Omen II which only served to enrage the Algebra II Teacher even more as he knew I wouldn't show up again until the next test day.

    Anyway.

I started a new gig - initially pushing pencil & buttons at 1 AM, which became 3 AM & is now 5 AM. Crunching numbers wears ya out, ya know.

If you are overstressed or suffer from depression, this can cause this problem.

I am super stressed and I can never sleep. The meds help, but what really helps is working myself hard physically. If I notice by 11pm I am not starting to feel a bit sleepy, I go to the gym for an hour or two... home by 1 and I am usually BEAT and real tired. I actually get about 7 hours of sleep then and I feel GREAT the next day. And the GF doesn't mind me being in shape either :)

Turn that negative into a positive.

haha no doubt there's been times in my life of stress/depression, but now is certainly not one of them, i'm as laid back and stress-free as possible. as i mentioned this isn't a symptom of something else, this is a genetic impulse that's been with me for life.

i got to sleep at about 8:30am in the end, had one of the best non-alcohol-induced sleeps i've had in a long time and woke up feeling great at around 1pm. 3-4 hours of good sleep is all i need and i feel brilliant, my problem is my current lifestyle makes it almost impossible to get those 3-4 hours at a conventient time, which for me is between a normal person's breakfast-lunch.

on the odd occasion i actually fall asleep before midnight, when that happens i will always wake up by 2 or 3am and still somehow get the drowsies mid-morning.

couple years ago i spent 6 months werking from home, that was great, i got sooo much done as i did it when i felt like it. 2007 is the year i'll be looking to try and be my own boss...

I know EXACTLY what you mean. The only way I can fall asleep at a reasonable hour is if I don't sleep the night before (at all) or if I pass out from intoxication.

It is currently 2:20am here on the East Coast and I consider my day(night) just starting

Top of the morning to you

I understand where you are coming from. I too operate nocturnally, usually don't go to work/ school until 2-3pm and work until on various things until 6 or 7am when I head to bed. For me it is not an issue, however having any kind of social life when you operate on this schedule is near impossible.

I think I was semi-normal, going to bed around 1ish. Then I worked the graveyard for 11 years. Still screwed up 17 years later.
