worth repairing?

For what it is worth, my insurance company paid me more for my 308 when it burned than what I paid for it. Tel them it was in great shape with a recent service,new stereo... ( which was all true with mine ) and they gave me a check for $42K. This was about 5 years ago.

 

Matthew, i am so sorry to read this. my 77 GTB is almost a twin to your car. i hope your insurance company comes through. i have Hagerty and i always wonder how it works out in the end with Agreed Value policies.

Agreed Value just establishes, based upon inspection, the amount they'll pay in lieu of whipping out the NADA and starting devaluation calcs.......

 

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but what about the mecahincals/service of the current car?

If I spent a lot of time and $ sorting "this" car out, I'm not sure I'd be that willing to jump into a new one that could be a mechanical nightmare.

It may be easier living with a good car that happened to have an accident than one the drains your wallet (again =)

P.S. Not to be anal, but accidents can happen to anyone at any time. We may all want to go and refresh our car pics. So that we have documentation (above & beyond) what the insurance company has of our current cars.

 

You're right. Make that 8hr/day 4 1/2 days (I work 1/2 a day on Friday)!

Damn truck! Man, I feel so sorry for you! I think if you will order all new front parts at Ferrari, it's gonna be expensive! Better try to find an example with broken engine, or accidented in the back. Put those good front parts onyour car, it will be much cheaper!

Matthew remember this, do NOT accept any offers from the insurance company without speaking to someone who knows how to reapair these cars. With the few that I did, the insurance co. went to regular body shops for estimates. After explainig to them that parts can't be bought they have to be made and brakets fabricated, and depending on what paint method was used for your car, etc etc etc. I convinced the insuance company to move from their offer of $6500 to $20000 to fix mine. I'd be more than happy to give a real estimate on the car if you like,

You have done the right thing...stand firm and be cool.

They all cr@p their pants when the word Ferrari comes up....

I had an experience where they continually lowballed me...by refusing to 'close' the file for almost two years, they came around....

Reworked substandard repairs THEY authorized and added supplemental dollar amounts for additional 'contested' parts damage.

You'd think as a customer it'd be different, but remember this:

Mostly, insurance companies work for themselves!

 

Maybe sue in Civil whoever gave this guy the keys???

 

The situation I cite was a nightmare..the irresponsible party who hit my Ferrari was insured by MY carrier as well!

Since they had both sides, I had no advocate....I lost some innocence that night.

Same thing happened when someone rear-ended my daughter's Honda. It stinks.

 

Ask Dan who he talked with at FoA. I know the general manager and service manager -- if he didn't talk to either Hugh or Chris, it's probably not valid. But as Tommy said regarding that the repair would exceed the policy value of the car, "so what"? That's what several here have already suspected, but it doesn't change the payoff obligation one bit.

 

Sorry, not exactly a hi-jack.

My son-in-law was hit by a DUI that ran and hit 3 other cars b4 he was stopped by a tree.

They both had the same innsurance company.

They had just bought the car and were upsidedown in their loan.

Spent the next year and a half paying on a car they did not have.

Fair as defined by innsurance companys is whatever is best for them!

Try to fix the car, only if you can afford it. Remember the words of the
guy after he saw the video of him filling his 308 when he was engulfed in a ball of fire. Just like you saw the amputee. Your still here and whole.

I will be going through B. AL this weekend on the way back to KS.

We were watching our sons children while they went on a cruise.
We are in Eufaula AL now.

I don't know exactly when we will be leaving so I can't ask where we could
meet and talk 308's.

Please keep us informed. If I were you I would keep it either way, especially if you intend to get another one to replace it. If the computerized laser frame machine finds no frame damage it should be a very easy and straight forward fix. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Great, great point - many people shop for the lowest rate, and realize after the fact that their rate is based on purchase price rather than actaul cash value. general;y ACV is not much more in upfront money, but worth the peace of mind.
Always remember - you can't get insurance when you need it! Be prepared...............
