I would love to see Marco in F1. I just hope he has an experience like his grandfather, and not like his dad.
It would really raise the profile of F1 in the states. No to downplay his affect, but unfortunately most of America still doesn't have a clue who Scott Speed is..............
His dad had the experience and the ability. There was so much more to that story that kept Michael in a rut.
Ron: Michael got screwed when he went to F1, for sure. That story wasn't told, because he is a true gentleman. Hopefully, Marco will sign with a front running F1 team, not a has been team. If he's smart, he'll listen to his grandad and father, and take his time getting there. He's got a lot to learn yet, but I see him there in 09. Art
How did Michael get screwed? He's the one who decided not to fully commit to F1 by not moving to Europe.
And most people don't know who Marco is. Andretti - yes Marco - no He has half the battle won, now all he has to do is prove this on the track.
The times you have on that monitor must have been his sector time; his best time for the day was a 1:21.88 according to f1.racing-live. http://f1.racing-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/061215174015.shtml Or, their information may be incorrect!
i read on a different forum that his time and kliens got mixed up - from that picture. Not sure how that happens...........anyhow....
These are the times as per SPEED TV: 1) Hamilton, McLaren-Mercedes (B), 1:19.493, 100 laps 2) Kovalainen, Renault (B), 1:19.586, 92 3) Fisichella, Renault (B), 1:19.798, 100 4) Klien, Honda (B), 1:19.835, 121 5) Kubica, BMW-Sauber (B), 1:19.894, 125 6) Badoer, Ferrari (B), 1:19.899, 38 7) Alonso, McLaren-Mercedes (B), 1:19.750, 95 8) Vettel, BMW-Sauber (B), 1:20.069, 117 9) Liuzzi, Red Bull-Ferrari (B), 1:20.191, 72 10) Sato, Super Aguri-Honda (B), 1:20.854, 104 11) Gene, Ferrari (B), 1:21.015, 98 12) Bourdais, Toro Rosso-Cosworth (B), 1:21.277, 100 13) Wurz, Williams-Toyota (B), 1:21.368, 64 14) Andretti, Honda (B), 1:21.888, 67 15) Speed, Toro Rosso-Cosworth (B), 1:23.315, 14
From Autosport: The circuit had logged in Klien and rookie Marco Andretti's cars wrong - so Andretti was getting credited with some very impressive times early on before observers realised that these were in fact being set by Klien
Interesting to see Bourdais ahead of Speed. However Speed's time is so far off, one has to wonder why.
I would love to see Marco stop wasting his time in the IRL and get a good F1 seat. Actually, I'd love to see 1 season of him and Graham Rahal duking it out in ChampCar before going off to F1. Art, I'm suprised at your comment calling Michael a gentlemen. His actions towards fans and his actions trying to kill off ChampCar have made a lot of fans turn against him. I'm not saying he's not, as I've never met him personally. However, Mario always seems to carry himself with grace and class, traits that Michael does not seem to have in public.
I think all the political stuff and wife stuff about Michael is just plain old rubbish, he's a pro race driver and in F1 he was rubbish, simple as that.
