It finally quit raining here, so I was able to get my "new" 348 out for it's first long drive today. My in-laws are in town, so while the girls were looking at the baby I took my father-in-law out for his first ride in a Ferrari. I let him drive most of the way. He is a hard-core Mopar muscle-car guy, with several ground-up restorations under his belt. I'm trying to convert him to the Brotherhood... Our other project yesterday was my new garage floor. Huge difference!

Beautiful 348!! I can't wait to get my garage drywalled too, since the house is "almost" done. What material did you use on the floor??

Since it's a SS, I think it is the Spider exhaust. Are there any markers to indicate if it's a Challenge instead? I've never been around a CH, but I don't think that it's loud enough for that. I plan on ordering the x-ost from Daniel after x-mas.

I used the Rustoleum Garage floor kit from Home Depot. I looked at a lot of different products, and they all appear to be the same. One key, buy extra! They claim that one kit covers 250 sq feet, but it's less. My father-in-law helped me, and he had the same problem when he did his floor. My garage is about 750 sq feet, and I cut it close with four kits (should have covered 1000 sq feet).

Car looks awesome... and that garage floor is only going to help show it off while parked.

You've inspired me to tackle the floor as I redo the walls to accomodate the new aluminum "Ferrari" sign and 2 foot aluminum Prancing Horse.

Did the rustoleum kit do a decent job covering any exingting spots / spills?

Looks terrific!! I'm curious what your father-in-law thought, after being a Mopar guy. He probably wasn't impressed with the 0-60, but did he comment on the tightness, roll, etc? I would bet he found the seats pretty narrow, and the footbox almost suffocating comparing to anything built in the U.S. since about 1906. :)

Floor looks terrific!! How long does it have to cure before you can drive the cars back onto it?

Spencer, you have one heck of a car there buddy, enjoy. Many fun miles are ahead of you. I bought my 348 Spider in February of 2004 with a hair over 22k on it. With a little over 11k miles beyond that now, that car STILL puts a smile on my face - just starting her up!

I love the fact that I find excuses to drive the car: "Honey, the car has been sitting for 3 days now, I don't want the seals to dry out, I need to go..er hem..moisten the seals, you know, part of routine maintenance!" :)

My 3 year old thinks the car belongs to her. I'm not surprised, the third word she said (Daddy, Mommy), was, yep, you guessed it: "Ferrari"

If the baby is having trouble settling down and can't fall asleep, you can always put the car seat in the Ferrari, there is something about the vibration that could put my daughter right to sleep.

    Congrats again man, three times!

He was pleasantly surprised. His last resto is a '64 Plymouth Sport Fury convertable which is about twice the size of the 348! Every nut and bolt came off, and it looks like it should be on the showroom floor brand new. We were crusing at 3500 RPM, and he said "don't you want to shift?" He loved the handling, and he took the corners faster and faster as his comfort increased. I'm not sure he enjoyed getting in and out of the 348, though...

If you put cardboard down, you can drive on the floor in 48 hours. They recommend one week for no cardboard, but my father-in-law said that his was Ok after a few days.

I used an engine degreaser on the existing spots, but I did not treat the entire floor. Moisture is the big problem with the epoxy, and you have to make sure that your floor is dry. It was only in the 60s here, and I was concerned that it would take a week or more for the floor to completely dry.

Total time for project, including prep 3 hours.

My five year old is in love with Ferraris, especially with the movie "Cars." She took a Ferrari poster out of the garage and moved it into her bedroom. She then stole my new hat, and wants to wear it to school! When the car arrived last week, she was my first passenger. It makes my wife a little uncomfortable, though, when they are at "play dates" and my daughter tells her friends that "my car at home is a Ferrari"!!!

The guys at Sport Auto are awesome. I spoke mostly with Steve Barney, then with Darrell when I went to sign the papers. They are very professional, and very easy to deal with.

99% of this was handled over the phone. I had called Steve about a Challenge 348 which sold the day before I called. He had a lead on this one, and we kept in touch over the next month before he actually had the car in his possession. I did not even see the car until the day we signed. It was pouring rain, so my first drive was when it arrived home in Arkansas!

I was at Ft Jackson in SC when I made the purchase, thus the tags.

I guess that's what I have to look forward to in a couple of years? :)

How does the wife like the car? My wife can take it or leave it, preferably, she'd like to see me leave it. She drove it once and found the clutch effort and lack of power steering a big problem for her. It's a shame really, I wished she could enjoy the car as much as I do.
