Brian, I don't understand how a car can be destroyed then rebuilt and still keep the same VIN. If I had a 2003 Enzo and it was destroyed this year but rebuilt by the factory would it now be a 2006 Enzo or still a 2003?

My older brother had mentioned something about speaking to an FNA representative right after the event, and being told that the tub didnt sustain any major damage, so the car could be rebuilt.

Whats the difference between that and resurrecting and restoring any old vintage car and replacing 3/4 or more of the components and a complete rebody?

Thats done from time to time. The tubs on F50 are supposed to be lifed out at 10 years. Does replacing a tub make it a different car or a 2006 car?

Used to be a local that owned a 250 GTO for years and years. Once someone jokingly asked him how much it was insured for and he said (this was 15 years ago) $150,000. The guy said how can you insure it for so little? His response was "Hey even if it burns to the ground the VIN plate will survive and with that and 150g's I got a GTO.

Amazing the Texas car is being "rebuilt" as its a slag heap.

When he said "have you ever been to Italy" I caught the drift, but any specifics? I always find stories like this interesting

That crash happened in Abu Dhabi, not Dubai.
That particular Enzo has a green Abu Dhabi plate '92'. (pictures attached)

I would appreciate any further pictures or info regarding the crash.

Nothing with Enzo's,they are way to expensive for me,but this story may give some answers to some members.
I once owned a Porsche 911 2.7S from 12/73 (G model) with was completely updated to 3.0 sc spec in the end of the '70s...Car was vandalised(read burned),and the owner managed to get a new Carrera 3.2L shell from the dealer trough he insurance company, they payed for the shell.
The new shell was delivered upon returning the burned shell, wich was "officially" destroyed by the dealer. It came with a bill of purchase, remember, bare shells were availeble as a spare part, just like a bonnet, door or complete gearbox for example.
Shell had only a production number,no VIN number.
The VIN number from the 12/73 2.7S car was then put into the new shell, and the car was built up together with the engine/gearbox and saved parts from the burned car and used parts...
Nowadays, you can't get those "substitute shells" officially...
Other story:eek:ne of my friends got a wrecked 993 4S,and I delivered him all the NEW parts he needed, and that includes the metal sheet under the fuel cell, where the VIN is stamped. I've got that part over a official dealer, new sheet WITHOUT VIN number, and no questions were asked...(??!)
Some peple don't make an effort to block off thieves and crooks...
Why? It's easy:1 stolen car=in many cases=1 car paied back from insurance=1 new car sold...
And for myself,I do have a BRAND NEW engine case for a 911 3.2L Carrera, without engine number...It was sold years ago to a Belgian scuderia, who went bankrupt...
    You see,something that officially don't exist,but I do own it....legally!!
On my Porsche 924 Carrera GT,wich was once wrecked by his French owner,I have a dokument from the dealer wich states that the VIN number was restamped (in a new sheet of metal),in their premisses.

Here's a site about an original GT40 that was rebuilt after being written off: http://www.gt40-1012.com/

Nobody seems to care when it is done, and the cars are still worth mucho bux.
