Time for another year of fun. FOC has many events planned for this year. Should be good.

The first event to kick off the spring is our annual go-kart GP. We are looking at March. I need some imput, because there is an opportunity to use the two tracks combined. It would cost $105 instead of the $80 per person and we would need 16 drivers.

I'm in, but not here last week of march.
The $105 is for the super grand prix (3 races of 25 laps, last racd 40 laps) on a regular track ($80 gets you 15 laps x 3, 30 (?) lap final).
The "track 3" (both combined) seems to have a moving price tag. A group of friends and I have raced 4 times over the past year, have always done the $105 version, and have been trying to schedule the track #3. Seems if you can "piggyback" on another group who has already paid the bigger $$ for the set up fee, then the cost (we figured) would be close to $150/person. But like I said, the cost seems to float, and availability is very limited, unless you want to pay the cost (we were once quoted $3K!) of the set up.

Absolutely right. It's $1500 to set the track up and $1500 to take it down, but we can piggy back with another event at no additional charges. The dates tentatively are 3/4, 3/10 or 3/11. I was quoted $105 per person, but we would need 16 drivers minimum. The cost may float if we don't have 16 people. The alternative is do the track 2 and we only need 8 at $80/.

The full track dates are limited in that respect unless we want to pay to set up. I will call to see if there dates later in the month if it works better.

I've been karting several times recently, and know a handful of guys who would be interested.
my vote is for the 4th... I have an overnight thing with my 7 year old on the 10th.

Since I can't make March 4, 10 or 11 this gets my vote.

Anyway, lets see how many on here show interest for some particular date and go by the majority. Although finding 16 people could be difficult.

Ok looks like 10/11 is out. I have call in to see if 3/24 or 3/25 is availabe. We need Andreas there as he supplies the trophies.

Let me know. It does not matter to me which track we do. But either the 4th or 24/25. We can still do track 2 or 3 with 8 people, but we need 16 committed to get the full track.

How fast are these things? I may have an additional two people who would like to join the fun. Is there an age limit (young?).

They're not that fast, about 30 mph tops, but they feel very fast because the course is so tight. Normally they're very safe unless you ram one that has come to a halt (a story for Rick and Billiam to tell).

IIRC the age limit was 16. Not totally sure though. But it is not for children.

30 mph, that is fast. Thanks for the info.

I would have two then for the karting. No. 1 son is 14 and will have to wait.

I just checked, you actually have to be even 18 and have a license:

With the grand prix set up we use you must be 18 years old.

I am down to 2 dates. 3/4 or 3/25 for use of the full track. We need 16 people to commit to take opportunity of the full track.

    So far:

    Richard
    Adreas (depending on date)
    Haley
    Rick
    Spike308
    Twin one and two
    JohnnyS

Things changed a bit and I could now make 3/11, but I don't think we should risk the commitment of 16 people given the interest on here.

Put me in for two. That would give us 10 by my count.

    Only 6 to go.

3/11 would work as well. For full track dates would be 3/4, 3/11, or 3/25. Please when you post let me know which dates. I would like to get 16 to be able to use the full track. Friends and family are welcome. Prizes will be awarded to FOC members only though. I know we can get 8 on any date so I will pick one if I don't get enough commitment for the full track.

    Richard x 2 - any date
    Andreas 3/11
    JohnnyS x 2 any date
    Spike308 3/4 or 3/11
    Haley any date
    Daytona Rick 3/4 or 3/25
    Twinone x 2 any date
    heckler40 any date

Based on response, an executive decision was made. The date is for 3/24 Saturday in the afternoon. We will be doing similar grand prix as alst year with everyone guaranteed 3 qualifying races and the top 10 will race a final race for trophies. Because of the lack of truely 16 drivers we will be on one of the shorter tracks.

If the past years are any indication, it should be a fun and exciting (if not controversial) day.
