New race track in Houston?

Nope, I was speaking with someone today out at the Blimp Base, he says it's cooled off as a project..

That's on 2004 west of I45.

Now the Houston Motorsports Ranch DID get built, but it's down Hwy. 288 towards Freeport.

Then of course we have the new track that circles the Astrodome...

 

Lots of pavement out at the Blimp base though, I may take my karts out there...

I raced these karts from 1998 - 2001 with Child Advocates.
We were a support class to the Texaco Grand Prix when it ran downtown.

Every year we'd get one or two new machines so they've piled up, even with my mechanics home burning and losing a few..

I have three left for fun I terrorize the neighborhood....only one is still running.
The other two need some love and rework.....

I'm retired...

Agreed, I'd love to get into carting or just have to have fun in, but there's no way I could afford it.

I thought we got a new karting facility a few months ago? I use to see a billboard off I-45S between 2920 and 1960 advertising a track opening soon.

 

Anyone wanting to get into karting....give Jerry Dehaan a call at Dehaan Racing in Spring, Tx...281-355-9131 (www.dehaanracing.com). I drive a 125cc shifter kart for Dehaan in the SWRA (www.SWRA.org) road racing series here in the South Central Region. Dehaan offers great support and very reasonable pricing. We are in the middle of building a 450cc superkart to race in the superkart series as well as the SWRA.

There is a local sprint track /club (www.racekarts.com) in Katy that is under new construction to add additional track to the existing .4 mile course. It is a private club, but anyone can race on race day.

This one is on Hwy. 6, north of I-10. I was in there for a few minutes to look around. Looks like a ton of fun!! We should organize a get-together, even though it is quite a ways from me. They said they do club rentals and private gatherings.

The blimp base?? isn't that the one Mecom owned back in the 50's 60's where he used to shake out the bugs in the 250gto's and GrandSport Corvettes????? if it is THAT is one hell of a racing history.

All the people who raced for him from AJ to Penske to well you know EVERYONE... Shame the NFL made him get out of racing when they awarded him the Saints.

The facility on FM 2004 is the old WW2 Airship Operations base, the corner pylons of the hanger are still there, along with LOTS of flat concrete. And the Administration Building

You'd know more than I on the Mecom tie-in, writerguy, but would not be surprised, I thought his shop though was at the Houston Airport which at the time of the Bahama races would have been Hobby, prior to construction of IAH north of town.....

 

Lady Valeria tossed the last kart into the backyard....it'll be iced over by Wednesday......it was running pretty well, too...

 

Right, the kart track in Katy has been there a long time.....

In 2000-2001 I ran a few events at the blimp track. There used to be a really big shifter kart series in Texas that would make the stop. Suprisingly the track had a nice layout to it, quite quick, and made for good racing in the karts. Maybe a bit rough though.

As far as I know the track..... errr pavement is still there for tormenting expensive cars!
