I've always wondered how I'd react if someone questioned my ownership of a car. Mike has been fairly low key - perhaps it's a bit perverse, but if I were telling the truth I think I'd refuse to post pics/provide VIN, and perhaps entertain wagers (in the form of charitable contributions, if you're right, I contribute to your charity) on whether I'm telling the truth. I posted in passing about my ownership of a 599 on another forum and was challenged half heartedly, but nothing came of it. I agree that liars should be exposed, but know that I would react very poorly to being accused of lying. The exotic car community is so small that IMO it would be very difficult to misrepresent one's ownership for very long; I've never really understood why anyone would bother trying, has to be a truly hollow thrill.
In a conversation on another board I wrote that I owned a Ferrari. All of a sudden a couple of the regulars started being jerks and called bs, wanting proof. Since I never said anything, nor have a reputation that should be questioned, I was very offended. So, I offered to bet the ass $10k that would go to charity if I said anything that was inaccurate. The little boy (prob. in his 40's) wouldn't man up to his words obviously, but he didn't back down either..... and the mods only mildly shut him up. I don't understand why people would lie, but I don't understand why people would question, either. If you are a man of your word than a gentlemen's wager seem appropriate.
"So, I offered to bet the ass $10k that would go to charity if I said anything that was inaccurate." Exactly what I had in mind, well done. Just making the offer, however, would probably scare away the skeptics.
Michael, I think you will find that there is nothing to back up JR's claim about the interest and it is pure speculation. That is why he did not answer you. Same old ****. Matthew
Mat is right. I only have what I was told on ********** just after Dan was temp banned, which is why I tend to say, "I heard or I was told." I do not honestly know how he paid for it. However, those terms would fit the facts that we do have. Matt, if you can offer a better explanation I am sure we would like to hear it.
The answer to that question tears off the scab of a large, festering wound that cost one member his posting status here at F-chat.
Prove you have a 599. I call BS and demand to see photos right away! I too cant understand why people tell porkies about what they own/drive....but to each their own. As for the OP, I niether know nor care if the lad has an Enzo or not - like most, I'd assume he does have if thats what he's telling us, but if he hasnt it certainly wont alter my life in any way shape or form. All the best Jamie
Trust me, I dont care. I am just answering questions and accusations at this point. Matt seems to care the most.
Here... http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112651 http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115332 The first link is the infamous diablo thread. The issue there wasn't just talk about getting a diablo, it was calling out another member who went out of his way to accommodate him in his search. After that thread, one of the mods (I think Mark) told him not to post until he showed up with a diablo OR apologized. The second link was sort of the final straw. He had ignored the posting restriction numerous times (no diablo, no apology) and then went on this Fchat drive and drove crazily and was too egotistical to heed warnings about his driving. Several months later he did get a diablo and immediately got a temp ban on L-power for his behavior even after the deal was verified.
Hello everyone on this thread. If you take a moment to look back at all the posts written, it makes alot of you look really silly. See, both are at fault, Michael and other posters. Michael was a bit too quick at announcing his purchase of a $1,000,000+ car on a forum. Those who called BS are a bit too quick at BSing. Just for a second, imagine if Michaels Enzo arrives tomorrow and had pictures up promptly, how bad would you all feel. Seriously. Now, lets imagine his Enzo does not come, Michael you would feel bad and would not be invited back to the forum. At the end of the day, you could of all waited until February before you opened your mouths. I'm sorry for Michael for all the immature, disgusting posts and "cards", and sorry for those who were quick to jump to conclusions who might just be humiliated in February. Im sure Michael would accept some apologies. Come on guys grow up. Cheers. p.s Iv'e promised pics of my dad's 612 for a while now. I will have pics up soon though
I would not feel bad at all. As with Dan when he did get his Lamb, I had my Crow with the mango salsa and wished him well. So if the car arrives I will apologize again, have my Crow with the Duck Sauce this time, and wish him well. However, I dont see that as very likely.
Londonferrari612........... I see you are new to the board, welcome to F-Chat by the way. When you accumulate a thousand or so posts here over a period of some time, and see this event occur on almost a weekly basis, you will understand the skepticism. One of the things that a community must be built on in the foundation of trust.......be it an internet community or a physical one. I also note that you make reference to your father's 612 (congrats to him), which places you in the younger age category. There is nothing wrong with that, as we were all there at one point in our lives, but what it does impart is a lack of awareness of the human dynamic that youth does not possess. Again, there is nothing wrong with that........time will cure this. The majority of people caught misrepresenting and lying here are probably in the under 25 age group......because they do not understand the dynamic.........yet there are also many here who have the respect of members. I wonder which category you fall into............let's see......... Now, a person in said category telling a group of adults to "grow up" certainly does not add to your credibility here......for the aforementioned reason. Nor does your recent comment to a very respected member of this forum, Marcel Massini. Would you like to prove "your" personal ownership of the said cars listed in your profile (especially since you are promising pics of your fathers car) as you state in your profile that the 612 is your "personal ferrari" or does it, along with the other cars listed, actually belong to someone else in your family perhaps ? Personal Ferraris: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Wanted Cars: Range Rover Sport Supercharged Other Cars Owned: Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG Porsche Cayenne Turbo BMW X5 Cadillac Escalade Mini Cooper S A person who was accused of making up a story would not hesitate to prove it true and make everyone look like fools, especially in a public forum. Having seen this scenario hundreds of times in my 46 years (I am a salesman) I can assure you that this statement is a firm judgement of human character. Enjoy the forums !! JR........looks like you'll need some more cards for this wanker as well...............
I don't think the kid is off base at all. There are some people on this board way too quick to blow their wad at an alleged yet-to-happen event. The way I see it, some guy posted information that he had made a deal for an Enzo and was expecting delivery sometime in February. At this point there is really nothing strange here. It then is uncovered that he is only 23 and the green envy monster rears its ugly head up high and starts demanding to know how, my god!- How does a 23 year old afford an Enzo!!!!!! The correct path here, IMVHO, is to simply let the information sit until February - that is when it might be appropriate, if you really needed to know, to ask the young lad as to the outcome of the expected Enzo delivery. Why all the fuss and bother? Why the malicious cards? Why all of the smugness - especially the overbearing smugness of those who act as if they are the only ones who really know. A sorry lot indeed. As the kid says - grow up guys.
If you want to participate in a community of BS artists Alex my friend, the only question I have to ask is why ? I place a lot of stock in personal credibility, as it is the only thing that separates the wheat from the chaff. Are any of the professionals you employ of dubious character and prone to employing gross misrepresentation as the usual M.O. or for that matter are your friends ? I sincerely doubt it, and am not implying that you do either, as you come across a man of great integrity here, therefore I doubt you would willingly associate with said individuals. I welcome anyone to F-Chat, but when something stinks, I like to find out why I haven't thrown it out yet. And that is what I would hope this community would continually strive to become.
