Which car's styling do you prefer?
No offense but this is rather pointless. The guys who primarily grew up looking at the 328 prefer it over the early cars. Its like the 348/355 question, and its almost exactly the same, the one that you grew up looking at. I grew up looking at the 250's and those were always my dream cars. But then they built the 308, and I drooled. To me, the 328 is ugly. The early car is the original, and I have yet to ever see anyone improve on an original. The Countach falls into that discussion as well. Because IMO all the flares and wings did was ruin the looks of a very pretty car and turn it into something hideous. In the end, beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder.
Aye....except the Countach part. I'll take anything up to, but not including, the 25th Anniv. model - *that* was hideous. All others are fine in my book, but again, it came down to what I grew up looking at, and that would be the LP5000S.
FWIW, I originally had strong leanings to toward the 308, then later the 328. After a couple of years of intensive exposure to both, I've come to the conclusion that they both look great, and aren't as different as we sometimes imagine. To me, the Euro version of the 308 is best. The 328 seems to slightly mute the curves a bit here and there, and the USA version has that horrible middle bit on the engine cover. Add to that, the Euro 308 has a deep front aero... Of course color me biased. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
if they didn't think they could improve the looks of the 308, they wouldn't have made the 328. I agree with them.
I like the shorter nose on the 308 and think the longer one on the 328 is too long for the lines of the car. Love the slide levers on the 308 interior they look timeless and unique but the 328's controls look dated already. 84-85 qv with 16 inchers best IMO.
308gts is tough to beat. Even in USA trim. I agree the 16" wheels are a must though. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ditto..... (an original is.......just that...., anything additional is nothing more, and sometimes perhaps...less.)
As an industrial designer, I can understand and appreciate the evolutionary tweaking of the 308 that resulted in the 328. Designer's can never stop designing! They are both perfect in terms of proportion and gesture, the 328 is just a bit more refined. I think the bigger issue is GTS vs. GTB. Owning the latter, its no surprise to see me support the GTB. There's something about that gleaming red uninterrupted roof line of the GTB that just holds (figuratively) the car together. Either way, they are beautiful (how many cars on the road today can truly be called beautiful?) and history will prove them to be timeless as well.
Unfortunately. While the 328 may a quantumly superior car, the front end styling was "refined" to the point of ungainlyness. It it the 308 which is the classic, the 328 evokes the Bricklin.
I prefer the 328 by a small margin but normal (i.e, non-Ferrari-obsessed) people can't tell the difference between the 308 and 328. Both are beautiful cars.
I was surprised to read that someone posted that the 328 is ugly...hmmm, I'm trying to locate the area of ugliness, but I fail to get to that point of view -- well, fortunately, it's only an opinion in the minority and not fact. For me, the 308 GTSi QV, was the Ferrari that captured my heart while I was in college; however, after college, the 328 was getting all the press, so I drove the 328 and ended up with her. That said, whenever I'm at a Ferrari gathering and a 308 GTSi QV is parked next to one of my Ferraris, I have been known to continuously compliment, many times over, the 308 GTSi QV in the following areas: -the grills behind the headlight pods, -the fog lights, and -the toggle switches. To me, the front end of the 308 GTSi QV looks more aggressive than the 328, and the 308 GTSi QV reminds me of another favorite Ferrari...the 288 GTO. Even though I have these preferences for the 308 GTSi QV, I have to be true to my girl; hence, I voted for the 328. /s/ Alfonso
Hi, miketuason. I agree with you 100%, and I have thought about your statement many times in the past. I wish that they kept the 308GTSi QV body and just increased the engine size to the 3.2! /s/ Alfonso
