I found these two pictures on a frech internetsite. I know that chass. 3445 had a new body in the seventies but I have never seen the Drogo body.

What was the reason that was rebodied bij Drogo in the Sixties. And what happend with the original body?

Are there any other pictures of 3445 with its Drogo style body or before its droge style body.

How original is the body of the car these days?

I would like to have more information and pictures of this car.

    Kind regards
    Xander

I would be carefull as both those photos are copyrighted!

The Drogo body was a common update circa 1963 - 1967. 3445 had it after the original body had taken quite a few hits in the normal course of some very active racing.

The original Scaglietti body like most GTOs was updated and repaired as needed but by the mid-60s was pretty worn out. Drogo supplied new bodies and fit them to cars for less money and in less time than Scaglietti could repair a damaged one. The original body was partially recycled into the new one with the unused damaged bits simply being thrown away. Before anyone freaks out, remeber at the time these were nothing but tools of momentary passion and as such simply old race cars that were meant to be raced.

A former UK owner used the car as a daily driver until a traffic accident in the 1970s with a lorry laid the car up. Maranello Concessionaires got the job to repair the car and sub-let most of the work directly back to Ferrari. Ferrari rebuilt the car from the frame-up but sent the body work out to a local shop where an all new S1 body was completed and fitted to the restored car.

The total invoices for all work ex-UK came to £2,000 which was a hell of a deal even back then! Years later the owner sold the car to a friend and the next three owners let me race and play with it on a regular basis in between sales. It is now the key car in a prominent US collection.

    Cheers,

    Bill Noon

The last seven photos are from my last year of racing the car before it went into a private collection.

The first is Monterey after getting by Brandon Wang out of the cork-screw.

The others are all of from Lime Rock, CT.

Bernie Chase never owned the car.

There are three subsequent owners after Robs, none of whom I can name publicly but others are welcome to as it is hardly a secret.

    Cheers,

    Bill

Don't worry about it. A copyright does not mean that you can bar anyone from using your photograph no matter what. This is a huge misconception. "Fair use,” includes "criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research." Hello? Scholarship and research is what Fchat and this thread is all about and is and precisely why nobody should be afraid to post copyrighted pictures here, no matter who has the copyright. It is well within the "fair use" of the photographs (meaning even if the photos are as copyrighted as can be, it is perfectly legal to reproduce them here.) Copyright covers people making a profit from selling reproduced work, not people who are knowledgeable in a field researching and discussing a topic.

p.s. Bluemel's book is wonderful and is a "must have" in my opinion.

Here is the Drogo-Body of that car, rebuilt on #2423GT (250 GT) with orginial 250 GTO engine and transmission, now called 250 GT(E) Berlinetta Speciale Drogo #2423GT.

Car is now located in Hamburg, Germany. This pictures were taken by myself at FRD 2006, Nuerburgring:

The chassis of this car is questioned but stamped 2423GT, the engine is original 2423GT. The body is recreated like the Drogo body once on 3445GT. The original Drogo body of 3445GT once was severely crashed and broken up.

I picked up 3445GT from the panelshop when it was finished back in the early 90's. From hazy memory they were doing some work on a few D types and a SWB at the time. Threw it on an open trailer, roped it down and hauled it off back to its owner, stopping for gas occasionally and no-one so much as batted an eyelid, those were the days. (Cue the misty eyes)

Is it heresy for me to say I like the Drogo body quite a bit more than the original?

Could we put a 'pin' in this issue for later discussion? I don't want people to assume that all use of copyrighted photography on the board is a fair use. Hate to object and run, but I will need some time to set out an explanation. Regards,

Well corrected Boudewijn. Once owned by John Starkey, who interestingly also owned a TDF (relating to the other ongoing thread about TDF's)

I saw the blue and yellow GTO hidden in a corner under a cover at Lamborghini of Las Vegas. The car was being hidden or some reason or another. It took quite a bit of coaxing to get them to lift the cover so I might see it. Wonder what the issues was.

lvferraripilot, care to clarify how many months, years ago you saw her there?

The car was there for a private function two years ago and has not been back since.

we were lucky to have 3445 in the DC region for awhile when Charlie Arnott owned it; quite the sight in FoW's showroom - the new cars just looked dull in comparison.

I saw these two last year at the Silverstone Historics, I know the identity of the red one, (a converted 330 GT which runs with a four liter engine), but the origins of the other are not known to me, but I am sure it is not 3445 GT. ( and so nice to read about copyright here.....)
