ROFL!!!! That had me laughing good. I can just see Higgins chasing the General Lee as it does donuts on the estate, with Higgins yelling "Oh. My. GOD! You've just run over my alcea rosea".

The only questions about having a Dukes of Hazzard and Magnum PI movie are 1) will Magnum boink Daisy, even though Cathrine Bach is now 300 pounds (can Cathrine Bach squeeze her buns into those tight shorts?), and 2) Will the General Lee jump the guest house?

That would provide a very good cameo. Maybe part of the movie has Simon & Simon on vacation in Hawaii at the King Kahmehamaha Club. Magnum can walk past them on his way to the bar to get a duseldorph beer. Magnum might even recognize them and buy them a beer. I dunno how much deeper Simon and Simon could be worked into the movie. Maybe this would be a good primer for a Simon and Simon reunion movie? The Magnum PI movie could end with a cliffhanger to be resolved in the Simon and Simon movie.

I believe most people would be happiest if Magnum was played by Tom Selleck, and all the cast returned. What is so bad about looking in on the lives of Magnum and the gang in their 50's and 60's? Are they only interesting in their 30's?

The key to this movie is great writing. Tom Selleck can still play Magnum. Selleck is Magnum. Nobody else will ever be Magnum. Just a couple years ago Tom Selleck played a character on Friends where he was banging Monica who was in her late 20's. Larry Maneti was on television a couple years back and he does not look too old to be running a night club. I bet Rick has his own night club by now. Maybe TC has moved on from flying 1 helicopter to owning a tourism business? Magnum is at the correct age to retire from the Navy with full benefits. What will Magnum do now that his career in the Navy is over?

Magnum is married and has a child with Michelle. That child is probably 25-30 years old. It would be the perfect age for a plot point. Maybe the child followed in Magnums steps, and graduated from Annapolis and was ordered to Afghanistan as part of a Navy Seal team to fight terror. Magnums child could be framed in some international plot involving terrorists. It could be like the first episode of Magnum "Don't Eat The Snow in Hawaii". Magnums son could be on his way back from a mission in Afghanistan, and when he lands in Hawaii his son is killed when heroin packets explode in his stomach. The Navy wants to remove all honors from Magnums son. This causes Magnum to find out who murdered his son and to restore his good name. Rick, TC, and Higgins can all be there to help a distraught Magnum. The movie can end with the same scene from "Did You See the Sunrise" where Magnum killed Ivan as revenge for Ivan killing Mac.

Ivan: I have plane to catch. If you are going to shoot me, do it now. You won't. You can't. I know you Thomas, I had you for three months at Duc way. I know you better than your mother. Your sense of... honor and fair play. Oh, you could shoot me. If I was armed and coming after you. But like this? Thomas... never. Goodbye Thomas. Dasvidanya.

    Thomas Magnum: Ivan?

    Ivan: Yes?

Thomas Magnum: Did you see the sunrise this morning?

    Ivan: Yes, why?

(The camera pans to Rick by the side of the road, and we hear a gunshot from where Magnum and Ivan were in the woods. The screen turns black.)

Magnum retires from the Navy and decides to go and buy his old car (the 308) but discovers Higgins is gone and in trying to relocate him discovers Robin Masters who is also concerned and looking for Higgins. To make it even more interesting Robin Masters turns out to be a HOT woman with a newer or late Ferrari. The Ferrari of course would be at Magnums disposal. Any takers???

I like it! I like it a lot!!!! It is a great way to get the 308 back in the movie (Magnum should be able to afford an used 308), and it could also be a reason to have a new Ferrari (Robins current Ferrari). Perhaps while Magnum is searching for Higgings, Robin grants Magnum use of the estate and the newest Ferrari. At the end of the movie, Magnum buys his old 308. The movie could end with Magnum leaving the estate driving the 308.

But how do you explains Robin Masters deep voice if it turns out he was a woman? I think that is just a bit too much.

One more scene the movie must have. Magnum pulls into a restaurant to meet with a contact. As Magnum gets out of the Ferrari, a younger valet person asks Magnum "Is that really your Ferrari?". Magnum looks into the screen with a raised eyebrow / inquisitive look.

there is talk about a son for Magnum, But IIRC in the last episode Thomas had a daughter by Michelle and that was one of the reasons he was going back into the Navy.

Yes. And the picture quality is good for a show from the 1980's. The only downside is the lack of extras. It would have been nice if they added a commentary track. I would like to hear Selleck, Manetti, Hillerman and the gang talk about the show. I also believe if they could get the cast together in the same room, they would all agree to make a movie.

Is there any reason why Selleck wouldn't do a made-for-tv movie? They don't cost very much to make compared with a big screen flick. I wish Selleck would have done what Garner did and make 5 or 6 movies. I like the Rockford Files and I enjoy the movies Garner made after the series ended. It would be nice if Selleck would have done the same. I bet the rest of the cast- Mosely, Manetti, Hillerman could all use the income. Plus, the Rockford File movies prove that a 60 or 70 year old man can be the lead! Those movies did good for the network that broadcast them.

A friend in Hollyweird tells me..

There have been negotiations with Mr.Selleck. He has been willing to do a "Magnum" movie for years..but won't agree to some ridiculous cameo appearence. Hopefully..there will be agreements reached with Mr. Selleck and former cast members. It would be great to see a "quality" job done here. Perhaps an e-mail campaign to Universal and Imagine Entertainment is in order. Rawson Thurber's writing team may unofficially consider public input..same thing with Ron Howard and Brian Glazer. A well written plot featuring the original cast members would definately create excitement for Magnum,p.i fans worldwide. Such a movie would have great potential for success. (for Hollywood..and maybe Ferrari too..)

Selleck playing "The Mag", TC & Rick as themselves, Hillerman only playing Higgins (no Elmo, Father Patty, or any other half brother), no Luther Gillis, Col. Buck OK, Mac dead (ghost OK, not as Jim Bonnick), drop Lt. Page, bring back Maggie, and definitely bring back Cynthia (Dana Delaney).

Oh yeah, Carol Burnett can make a cameo too.

This thread has caused me to check out the Magnum PI reruns on cable. When I use to watch the originals I loved the show and, of course, the car (I had a 246GT at the time). With age comes wisdom and I now realize that most of those plots were pretty lame (I know ... some exceptions). But most cult icons are in the same boat. So the Hollywood dilemma is .. should it make a corny retro-Magnum movie or should it try to do something with more plot/character-quality? I agree with those threaders who say that there has to be a strong linkage between the series (Selleck/Higgins/Ferrari/etc) and the movie or it will tank. Of course, the current generation will ask .. Magnum?? Is that a new band?
