Isn't that 78 specs. I think the front boot has no cover on the 77?

No 1977s have a zipper cover on the spare..

If a dry sump is what you need, that may be your car..

He means that is not a popular color combo....

    Pluses:
    Euro car, good motor
    Tillack's expertise

    Minuses:
Front bumper/grill mod is just wacky, IMO.. needs repair and bumper/grill is gone!
Wheels are not correct and if that's a 16" brake set up, THAT would be a nightmare to restore...

That is a good write up and supports my enthusiasm for the unmolested 1977 steel cars, I prefer the North American version features though....

Not addressed in that mega buck engine rebuild is the issue of OEM sodium valves....surely they were changed? He's also on shaky legal ground with his smog disclaimer in that in CA the seller IS responsible for compliance, IIRC....maybe Art can chime in on this.......

I think the gold is pretty, black interior would have more to my taste though, the gold/brown leather/different brown of the carpet is too much disparity...

I kinda like the color and am looking for another non red early car. Ideally a euro glass one in blue or green but's thats not easy to come by.

To fix the front end on this I guess you just need a new grill and bumper.

I guess I snoozed and lost. Its well worth the buy it now price in my opinion and just shows that the early 308's are rapidly apprieciating. Bet the seller wishes he had put up for a higher price.

Right, JT.....the bumper must match the grill or vise versa, in this case a fiberglass Euro straight bumper and a standard Euro grill......

Someone hit Buy it Now???? Interesting...........

THAT CAR HAS BEEN ON EBAY MULTIPLE TIMES!!!! That groosh guy is an artist, has his own website. Claimed the car was sold before, someone ELSE also bought it for 31.5 about a year ago.

This brings up major warning flags for me. I looked at that car before (on ebay, never in person), like about a year ago, same seller, same car.

    2 major big items:
    1) Why does he keep putting it up for sale then "saying" its sold?
    2) Look CAREFULLY at the records, seats switched to racing then switched back with "virtually" no miles put on the car????

I think its been tracked, and I'm not sure about the seller.

I'm at work, so I don't have the item number from the previous listing, but I think I still have it at home.

BTW I do remember it, you can't forget that nose, that color, and I remember thinking about talking with him about art, www.groosh.com or something.

It would serve you well to research things a bit further prior to making statements such as those above. Your derogatory tone towards the car and its owner are a bit over the top. Way over the top...

Had you delved a little further before letting loose you would have known that the car is extremely well prepared, documented, and presently taken care of. That "groosh guy", more commonly known as Paul Grusche, is actually rather highly thought of. The answers to every single one of your "major warning flags" were, and still are, available to you with very little effort on your behalf.

With regard to the car's having been molested, I will say that Steve Tillack is not known for being a hack. A bumper, mounts, and grill are all that are required to restore the nose to proper condition. All exist. The brakes and rims are just as easily replaced with correct pieces leaving only the side markers as potential "molestation". Those were put on the car when it was federalized upon entry in 1977. I agree, they look like dog crap...

Yes, I bought the car. I did my homework the last, and only other time, it was on ebay. I got outbid and figured the car had gone to a good home. The purchaser flaked and Paul decided to keep the car. When JT posted asking about a 77 on ebay yesterday morning I followed the link not expecting to see the gold car. I owned it 5 minutes later. The asking price was more than reasonable and I am without doubt as to having made the right purchase. Again, all it took was homework.

With all due respect, I would ask that next time you look a little deeper before slamming cars and people you know absolutely nothing of.

    Regards,

    Rob Stewart

    Hey welcome aboard, padner!

    Well, tell you what.

Be sure to report back to us once you get all those 'readily available' parts together and installed:

    Bumper/shocks grill
    Wheels/brakes/tires/OEM bolts...
    Labor to install......

My guess is you'll be upside down against the value of the car for a few more years, but like women if YOU think she's pretty that's really all that matters!

I don't think anyone was slamming the car/owner except maybe the last post by a non owner......the rest of us know who the fnck Steve Tillack is.....no need to lecture........he should have used OEM QV wheels on the mod, IMO...

    Ciao!

The correct side markers are readily available, once you repair the sheet metal damage done by those cut in flush ones.......no real consistent method to Federalization at the time.......just a bunch of guys with hacksaws and chisels..

If it were me I'd want the door crash beams.....does it still run sodium filled valves? What does Mr. Tillack use on 308GTB 2V rebuilds?

This is a subject you could contribute on, to the board..............

    Hey Tex,

Not one portion of my response to Mr. Denver was aimed in any way at you or anyone else in this thread other than him. Judging from your last three posts I would say you took it as some sort of personal afront. If so, I apologize. It was not intended. My comments regarding the car as being "molested" stand. I already have the bumper, grill, and mounts. All it took was a phone call.

Seems this car just plain turns you off. So be it. I"m obviously of a different opinion. I think it was very, very, well bought. You don't have to agree.

    Rob,

I sincerely apologize for any grief I caused you on your new-to-you car. While I understand you disagree with my comments, I was trying to warn others that may not have seen the car before.

Since being on this list, I know Mr. Tillack's reputation is very high, I don't suspect he would do anything unethical.

As I don't know Paul, I cannot comment on his respectibility, whether pro or con.

    Facts are:
    1) I did see this car go on sale on ebay at least 3 times.
    2) The car showed purchased at least once with no relist and showed removed from his personal website.
    3) Studying the records closely, there were, in my humble opinion, some unaccountedfor inconsistencies

I'm happy for you and your new 308, as mentioned, I was looking at it before and I do like it, the color and the nose, gives a bit of differential looks from a resale red car.

Again, making the above statements were not meant as a derogatory statement against Mr. Groush, Mr. Tillack, youself, or anyone personally. It was meant as an aid to someone who was looking at this car without knowing any details.

Too many "ebay cars" end up costing thousands. And while clearly I did not have all the facts, I also feel I should fairly warn others of the F-chat community if I do see something strange.

See my previous posts on the 328 in Castlerock Colorado, 308GT4 in Ft. Collins, the yellow ebay testarossa with ostrich seats as well as previous posts by others in regards to a silver 328 in Houston.

    Enjoy your new car.

Its true, I am a non-owner, I do know who Mr. Tillack is (as per my last post) and I was not questioning his ability or ethical behavior.

I WAS looking at my first fcar, but some of us cannot afford to own a '46 through a '04 Ferrari. My first Fcar was going to be johng's black/red 87 328 but was beat by literally 1 day.

While I try not to take offense, especially from someone who clearly spends more time on this board than I, I will highlight that many readers are either non-owners or are future owners who are nervous, concerned and often over-excited about making the decision to buy thier first fcar.

As someone said to me when I first posted (literally) "do not let your emotions cause you to make a bad decision". (could have been bigtex, not sure).

While I admittedly lack the appropriate tact in saying the statements I did before about the car, I still feel that non-owners can contribute, if its only to inform others who are about to make a purchase.

jonesdds is a good example, he just bought his first fcar, a 328, after a long search, and my previous posts did help him.

Again, I apologize if I've crossed some invisible line and offended those who truely respect the marque.

I wish I had taken Bigtex's advise and been a little on the patient side!

Take note...6 months ago, I bought a 308 on Ebay based on my emotions and a lifetime need for a Ferrari. Eventhough I did my "homework" on the car, when it arrived, I was not impressed with the condition. When I had my mechanic go through it, my dream went from worst to nightmare. 14K later, I finally have a well sorted 308 that is a blast to drive. As most of you already know, be very, very careful with an Ebay 308.

James, you meant no harm... just looking out for fchatters
