I swear these cars are are like my daughters! I am busy doing the 30K major on my 348 Spider and dotting it with belts, gaskets etc... So what happens - my TS decides get my full attention by leaving a puddle of gas on the floor :(

I pulled the engine and gas tank covers to find that a generous puddling of gas. Futher inspection (really hard to see) seems to indicate that the leak is between the back "fire wall" and the tank - so no real visual access - everything on the engine side is dry. In addition there is a build up of "diluted tar" (rustproofing material) on the frame driver side between the tank and the firewall.

Any ideas on the potential leak - I don't see any lines going to that side on the parts catalog..

I guess me only option is to pull the darned gas tank - any special tricks other than disconnecting the lines engine side and removing the straps? (after emptying of course)
    Thx

ND, I did as the one my spider was loose - scary. In the of the TS case it appears to be coming from the vicinity where item 12 is listed on the graphic.

BTW, thx for the connection with Dick Jordan, first time in a long while that someone tells me they will bill me AFTER I receive and test the part - sounds like a great person. Sending my pump in tomorrow!

ND, I stand corrected - the leak must be from one of the hoses b/c the back of the tank looks intact (no pucture or abrasion). I have a feeling that this occurs only when the tank is quite full since everything is bone dry now (1/2 full tank).

I guess now I have a VERY good reason to install the SPA fire extingher system sitting on my shelf - cheap insurance - should be offered standard for all Ferraris!

There are two different hose clamps labeled #31 in the diagram above. 348 owners and 355 owners have reported loose clamps at both locations that have led to fuel leaks.

As for the fire extinguisher, Yes! Good man. We are driving high-performance gasoline vehicles...gasoline is extremely flammable. We all need automatic fire extinguishers in the engine bay (Fire Foe units from West Marine cost a mere $130), and a handheld unit in the passenger cockpit is also a good idea.

West Marine had to special order the Fire Foe units for me (1 for 348, 1 for sailboat). They didn't have it in stock. Took a week, but was worth the wait.
