Hi Gang, I had done some measurements for a gentleman and i figured i document it here for all to see. The highest point of the lift, when it's lowered, is 7" where that lock/knuckle is. You will clear with (1) 12'x12"x2" board, but to use there lifting adapters you will need 1 more board. Pizzaman Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Chris - Can't believe you made those ramp pads yourself. When I saw them I figured they were provided by the manufacturer as an option. Great job!
Chris had us NE fchatters for a Ferrari movie day at his house last weekend and we all got to see the lift. Now that I have seen it in person I am even more impressed. A really nice little piece of machinery there! Very quiet in operation, a fail-safe racheting mechanism that prevents it from going down unexpectedly, and it lifts the car MORE than high enough to work on the car comfortably. VERY nice! Birdman P.S. Thanks again for having us over Chris, nice place you got!!
Agreed in all aspects. After seeing this lift- I WANT ONE! I couldn't believe how quite it was. You could run this thing and not wake up the house! It goes to the perfect height for any brake work, timing belts, etc. while standing, and seems high enough to get a rolling chair underneath. Thanks again Chris. jwise
Chris, do you think 1 2x12 height would work if you slid on the "feet" after driving the car into place? (leaving the allen screws out) I ordered one of these lifts two weeks ago. $1480. Ordered @ noon friday, it was at my house 3 days later, monday at 2:00pm. Me and the truck driver slid it into the back of my pickup (no liftgate on truck), then I backed down my driveway and used a chain hoist & m/c tie towns to hoist it up and drive the truck out, all pretty easy. I had a few minor "issues", BendPak were quick to rectify them. A quality product. It came so quickly, I'm not really ready for it yet, hence my question.
Larry the saftey locking nuckle sticks up 7 in. Tha ramps are only about 4 3/4. You will need 2 2x12.
Larry, You would have to lift the car by the fenders to slide the feet on. I had tried it with 1 board and it would push the feet off, when you drove on it. (allen screws out). On my 308, it did clear that knuckle/lock, but by a hair. Chris
Chris is the man. This guy has gone from a complete mechanical noob to a tool-accumulating, lift-owning, Ferrari-wrencher in no time at all. Way to go! We train 'em fast here at the Ferrari Fix It Club in MA! Birdman
I have the same BendPak MD-6XP lift as Chris. My 348 spider requires a ramp thickness using 2 2x's. Because the 348 front and rear track are so different, also rear tire width, I had to build a ramp using 2 x 12's and 2 x 6's, total ramp width 16". My Ferrari would not clear the "knuckle" without double height 2x ramps.
From the same place you bought yours. i will post picture of the setup when i get it. Luckly i got enough room in my garage for it to work. I was going to buy a lift like yours but for $500 more i can get an extra car in my garage it only made sense to go this route. I can't wait to get it installed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Anyone know if the Bend-Pac MD-6XP lift will allow for the removal of an engine and drivetrain from a TR? Kerry
I am planning on duplicating the setup that Chris has. I was able to source the plates for the ramps from this supplier: http://www.discountsteel.com/index.cfm/go/main.home.htm Chris provided the sizes as follows: 12"x16"x.25" quantity of 2 for the ramp 12"x8"x.25" quantity of 2 for the lift wheels Chris used aluminum but I ordered regular steel since I wanted the plates to be heavier and have no likelihood of bending. I plan on painting them with black ceramic. Here is a link for the garage floor protector pad he used: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?keyword=g-floor&onlineStore=true&langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053&marketID=401&locStoreNum=8125 Home Depot has only the rib channel pattern. The manufacturer makes several other patterns but they are much more expensive. I found a supplier for the lift here locally in Moorpark, CA here: http://www.gesusa.com/ges4less/product.php?product=258&category=58088 They quoted the lift at $1600 plus tax. For an additional $196 they will have it delivered to my home, take it off the pallet and put it on the ground in my garage. I'll post photos of my installation when done.
Correction - for the steel plates you need 12"x16"x.25" quantity of 4 for the ramp. I also ordered one piece 40"8"x.25" to protect the floor at the stationary end of the lift.
Michael, That's a cool site for the steel plates. Wow, you can get anything. Can't wait to see your setup.
Should be identical to yours except I plan to stain the timbers black and paint the steel plates black with a ceramic paint. You are lucky you had the plate material just laying around. With shipping the 7 plates were around $220 and they aren't even stainless! Stainless was mucho more $. The 17'x7.5' floor pad was unavailable at any stores locally so I had to have it shipped from Home Depot - $189+$55 shipping. I plan to bolt the stacked 12x2's together with counter sunk lag bolts and cross brace it with lag bolted 2x4's between to keep everything in place. Should be a fun project!
Sorry Kerry, i don't know the answer to that question. Sparky p-51 (Steve) was looking for one too and i think it was for a TR. Shoot him a PM. Chris
Michael, I got those pictures for you. 1st on first lock 2nd of 2nd lock 3rd of 3rd lock 4th of front of lift. This part does not move. Hmmm.....Maybe i should put a plate here too. 5th and 6th of the ramps i had made.
